Chapter 24: GETTING READY FOR CHURCH by Emma Knox

Well, it’s Sunday morning and I got up early to help Addison make up breakfast for everyone. I’m still in my kitchen, but I’m fixing to go change.

I wanted to say something about these pajamas. I got them at the thrift store. They come from a department store that has real nice clothes, but I guess whoever bought them must not’ve cared for them.

Now, I know not everyone cares for buying things other people have used. But some folks like me don’t care about name brands. I try to look sort of in style, but mostly I want to just look nice and be comfortable.

There were times when all I cared about was being warm, to tell the truth. Vicksburg would get a cold snap for a week or so, and hoodies and sweatshirts wouldn't be enough.

Anyway, Hannah said they looked really nice. Naturally, she had to tease me a little.

“I bet Merrit would agree. Send him a Snap!”

I didn’t do that, but I don’t think there’s anything naughty about how I look. I sort of think it’s like one of Hannah’s nice work blouses with matching pants.

Anyway, I feel like I rambled some!

Mainly, I wanted to just let everyone know we’re all doing well. Sharing breakfast has become sort of routine, except Noah has to work sometimes. I think I said before since Addison and me don’t have to be anywhere as soon as the others, we like to make the breakfasts.

Last thought from me before I go… I’m working three days this week. Just half-days sorting things for the homeless ministry at the church. But I realized I like the idea of having something scheduled.

Me and Merritt were talking about it, and he said it probably makes the week seem more legitimate to have things on the calendar instead of just free time every day. I asked Addison if maybe I could get some shifts in the theater gift shop, too. She said she’d ask Tom Jenkins and let me know.

Anyway, I’m still rambling. I better get going, so take care and thanks for reading my post.

Chapter 24.Emma: It's a very nice gesture for you and Addison to make breakfast for the others. Sunday morning before church is a good time. But I would advise against doing it every day. There would be a danger of it being taken for granted. Even by people as good as your friends not meaning to do that. So, keep it special only doing it sometimes. Now. Your pajamas. They look brand new. No clue they are not brand new. And you are cute in them. Also, tossing my two cents in, I'm glad you didn't send a personal snap to Merritt. You two are just now developing your relationship. It is in flux. A snap like that could be mistaken for something else. Maybe. I'm glad you didn't. Let things grow as they will. Ok. I do agree with Merritt about having somewhere to be. The church volunteer work, the possible gift shop, these give you a purpose, and you need that for self esteem. Don't clog yourself up too much, though. Coming soon, school obligations, school service work and homework. You are a self confident girl with a steady forward path. With that, you make your own style. Have a great day.

OK. Sorry. I guess I didn't realize the ministry job was paid.
