Good Morning
I don’t know how to explain it, but there is something really wonderful about waking at sea. It’s some combination of the boat moving gently atop the sea, the scent of the sea air, and sounds of the waves lapping against the hull. I think I’ve enjoyed yacht life since the very beginning—when over a year ago, we set sail out of St. Croix.
I would also like to acknowledge that this image is totally fake. If you’re not sure, notice a few things:
• The bed is already made. (I did that.)
• The hair and makeup are already done. (That was me, too!)
• Bathrobe? (Added for the selfie!)
It was not long before this that the bed was in ruins, like my hair! But a trip to the bathroom, a shower, blow-dry… never mind…
I keep a couple of robes in the stateroom locker so that when I need to go out into the salon or galley, I don’t have to pillage a sheet or blanket from the bed. I figured that was a good idea, a safe practice for life in close quarters.
So it was that around 3:00 a.m., I awoke wanting a cold bottle of water from the fridge. Robe on, I padded to the galley for my prize.
Turning around, Sasha was peeking from her stateroom. “Is it just you?”
“Yeah…” I held up the water.
“Water sounds good…” She crept past the door, looked all around as if confirming my claim, then made an “a la sans” dash to the fridge.
“Did I wake you?” I asked.
“I’m not sure… I was a little awake when I heard your door open.”
Robed and robeless, we walked back to our stateroom.
“See you in the morning,” she said, looking around one more time to confirm it was just the two of us.
“Good night,” I replied.
I really don’t have a point in sharing that anecdote. Maybe it captures something of the essence of our lives together? There’s some melding of cautious prudence with relaxed practicality, a merger of diligence and freedom, that makes sharing life together all these months easy.
Be your best you!

Back Ashore
I’m not going to lie—the last 24 hours have been as fun as they were hard work. I really don’t know how to share the feeling…
The success of the modeling job was very satisfying. Sharing the work with five other great friends made it better. Seeing Jason’s hard work and effort pay off was amazing. Everyone trusted each other completely, and that made the work flow effortlessly.
Now, we are back at the marina. I don’t know… It seems to me that the ground always feels too still after a day at sea.
Clay and Sasha are taking the Highlander back to the condo. Jason, Geoni, Josh, and I are walking.
Naturally, Geoni has me modeling as she tries new angles and settings. (So she says! It might be, she’s just telling me that to get me to pose for her! And, actually, I don’t mind at all.)
The plan for the rest of today is to unpack. Clay says we should queue up some of the gear for the next trip—things we will need on location, but probably won’t need around here. That makes a lot of sense to me.
And, there’s a restaurant literally at the end of Whiting Street. It’s been there this whole time. I’ve walked by it a bunch of times, but I don’t think I really registered it as a place to eat.
Jason and I are going there for dinner—I’ll tell you about it tonight.
So, that’s the plan for the afternoon. Hope you have a great one, yourself!
See you tonight!
Good Night
Jason and I are back in my condo after dinner tonight. Clay and Sasha just left a few minutes ago. Jason is going to hang out until I get this post done, then he’ll head down to his place and call it a night, too.
Down at the end of Whiting Street (the direction away from the beach, which might explain why I overlooked it for so long) is a venue that seems to be three things all at once! It’s Montana's The Kraken, 2700 Arena, and something called Apartment A.
Maybe next time, I’ll do a big post about the venue like a proper restaurant review from a travel blog. This time, I’ll just say it was great and we had a lot of fun.
Josh and Geoni stayed in for a quiet dinner in their condo. Clay, Sasha, Jason and I went to Montana’s. The company was as good as the food.
Somehow, the conversation drifted back to my first visit to St. Croix when we met Clay. Clay and Sasha sort of filled Jason in on how their relationship developed.
“At some point,” Clay said, “I just knew that, when people were deciding where to sit, my place was to be beside Sasha.”
I remember that. Over a short period of time, it seemed like they just knew they belonged beside each other. And that’s how it’s been ever since.
If time were unlimited, I could pull all the scenes together from the diary during that time. It would make a nice little collection. (I have ideas for other such collections, too. But time is not unlimited!)
With that, let me close this one out.
May people come into your life such that you know where to sit, who to share time with, and with whom you can walk together into the future.
Good night.
Be your best you!
