Chapter 39: READY TO GO by Emma Knox

It’s Friday and The Pay It Forward Society team is getting ready for our mission to Belize. Me, Noah, Addison, Rebecca, and Paul have loaded all the suitcases and bags into one of the Expeditions, and we’re about to head over to the airport to start getting the plane ready, except Rebecca will stay back to pick up the rest of the team when they get off work.

Me and Noah are waiting while Addison runs up to her apartment to get a little bag she wants to carry into the cabin. Even though we might look like it, we weren’t trying to twin our outfits. It just happened.

Addison had to make a comment. “Aw, you two look so cute dressed alike!”

Noah said, “Better to dress like Emma than Kent, right?”

I guess it really don’t matter anyway. Once we get going, I got on a t-shirt under my hoodie.

We’ll get to Belize tonight, and then we’ll connect with The Audubon Society tomorrow to start doing some mangrove restoration work. I’ve learned a lot about it, of course.

I could have guessed that they are important for the habitat they provide. I don’t think I ever thought about how they protect the shore from erosion. I might not have even thought about the ocean shore eroding, to be honest.

So, this project turns out to be another real important one. I’m sure you’ll see a lot more from people on the team as we have time. So keep your eyes open!

Chapter 40: MANGROVES AHEAD by Merritt Gray

The work week ended with me and Hannah jumping into the Expedition Rebecca was driving, joining Kent, Izzy, Jacob, and Rebecca for our run to the airport

Now, we are flying to Belize. All of this is pretty incredible. I’ve talked to my dad about all this, and he says to take advantage of the opportunity, stay safe, learn some things, and have some fun. Honestly, that’s pretty par for the advice he gives for many situations. Stay safe, learn something, and have some fun.

And that seems like a great approach to this trip. Plus, we’ll be doing some good work for The Audubon Society.

Emma and I sat together for takeoff. For now, we’re just going to hang out here, but this jet—amazing. It’s a Gulfstream G650ER that has a customized cabin. In the back is a section with two sections with bunks. (Guys’ side and girls’ side.) They are small, but way more comfortable than the regular seats, which are not regular as compared to commercial airlines.

I have to say that The Pay It Forward Society doesn’t cut corners! If they are trying to call attention to world issues, they are doing it in style.

The practical argument is we worked all day, and are expected to hit the ground running early in the morning. Getting us there rested enough to be useful clearly makes sense.

Maybe on the flight back, I’ll break down the whole configuration of the plane. Meanwhile, we all need to get some rest, and since there’s eight of us not counting Paul and Rebecca who are in the cockpit, I’m thinking Emma and I will just go forward to the front section where there are two awesome club seats that rotate and fully recline. We can let the others use the bunks.

Once we get landed, we’ll get to the hotel, get checked in, change clothes, and get to work. Big weekend ahead!

Chapter 39. Emma. Twins on purpose or not, it is cute. Yes, mangroves are important for the health of the shoreline. Did not know the Audubon Society was active in that, though. Thanks for the info. Safe travels.

Chapter 40. Mangroves Ahead. To Merritt: Yes, the Gulfstream G650ER is quite a plane. The Society is certainly well funded to be using one of these. Your dad is right about it all. Yes, please. On the way back, give details how the Society has this one configured. That is one thing this plane is famous for is customization. Thanks for the update. Safe travels.

Sure. Sure. Kent is joking now, but when Wing Commander Charm (Retired) lands the Gulfstream on the carrier on some future mission to Africa to help provide water to some drought stricken villages , he will be amazed that the "deus ex machina" feel is real. Just saying. I wish you success in the mangroves.
