GOOD MORNING

Don’t mind me—just running behind again. One last detail to knock off today for tomorrow’s jeans photo shoot. We need a studio backdrop.

What we need to pull this off is a white photography backdrop. We could get one from Amazon, but… would it be here on time. Probably.

This is a classic “which mistake would you rather make?" situation.

Would we rather drive to Laredo when we didn’t have to, or leave it to Amazon? If we go to Laredo, we can be 100% sure that we’d have one in hand by the end of the day. In a case like this, “probably” isn't good enough.

We found one on Marketplace, but we have to drive to Laredo. Four hours each way. Last night, the seller said we needed to be there by 11:00 a.m., meaning we need to pull out of here by 7:00. We’re aiming for 6:00 so we can add in a drive-through and account for unexpected delays!

We’re going to pull this off! But it will be a race this morning.

Otherwise, we’re all set. We rented a hotel banquet room to set up in. Kirina and Jasmine are on board. Eli said he’d drop by at the end (and take Kirina out to dinner).

So now I need to get going. (Obviously I got out of the shower to type this post.) Next stop, Laredo! See you there.

AROUND HERE SOMEWHERE

We’re looking for a box with a studio backdrop kit in it. It’s not as bad as it looks.

“Thanks for coming early,” the seller said. “It’s in the storage room.”

By storage room, he means this warehouse. It’s about half the size of a football field.

“If I remember, it’s in a white box.”

That little detail makes finding it a lot easier. And it will be long, shaped more or less like a roll of aluminum foil, about seven feet long.

What we’re buying is a photography backdrop. There are two supports with a pole between them from which hangs a rolled-up white sheet of flexible plastic. If you can’t picture it, you can look it up on Google or Amazon.

This is the last detail before we’re ready for the shoot tomorrow. So, I’d say within the next twenty or thirty minutes, all we need to do is get home and relax.

I’ll check back for a goodnight later, so see you then!

‘TIS THE SEASON by Allen Geven

I always feel obliged to say I’m Ailana’s father and that I appreciate you reading my thoughts.

I want to say that I’m really looking forward to this holiday season. To be fully candid, this is stacking up to be the best Christmas in ages. The first couple of years when Ailana was a baby, things were really special. First Christmas First tricycle… You get the idea.

Well, if you’ve followed her story, you know her mother left when Ailana was in sixth grade. From that year on, my struggles to keep a roof over her head always seemed to detract from the holidays. Before I knew it, she graduated college and went off to become successful.

Almost a year ago, she came home. Not just to northwest Indiana, but to herself. She, if you ask me, embraced her past, her upbringing, and who she was meant to be.

Then, she initiated the move to Texas. I have no regrets! Being back in the same town with my little girl again… I guess if you're still reading this, maybe you’re my age with kids of your own. I suppose you know exactly what I mean.

So, on Friday night, Ailana, Jason, Grammy, and I are going to celebrate Christmas. For me, I have a lot to celebrate in addition to the true purpose of the holiday.

GOOD NIGHT

Well, everything is all set for tomorrow’s jeans photo session. Except we don’t have the jeans, but shipment tracking puts them in hand by noon. All set!

This afternoon in South Padre Island was marked by scattered storms, with temperatures around 70°F, and it’s heading toward cloudy conditions until tomorrow. It should clear up in the morning. I’m marveling that temperatures will reach the mid 70s after noon!

The St. Croix trip is set to launch Saturday. I talked to Jasmine this afternoon, and she’s very excited. Micah, too.

Kirina and Eli fly out on Sunday and can stay a week before he wants to get back to deal with any end-of-year needs his clients might encounter. Honestly, I’m looking forward to some time away from everything, and to getting to know her better. And, I’d say, she and Eli will make use of the “away from everything” as well.

But before that, we have to take pictures of a large number of jeans. I’ll be sure to share some of the images as well as showing you what the setup looks like.

Meanwhile tonight, Jason and I are enjoying the warmer break in the weather and the end of the rain.

Let me end today acknowledging the season.

May the days in the weeks to come be filled with blessing, good times with family and friends, and a growing awareness of God’s gift to humanity.

Good night.

Be your best you!

GOOD MORNING. Wow! One can see the water on your shoulder. That is an incredible shot. And, oddly enough, illustrates the rushiness, um, rush-ity of your mission to Laredo. Good luck to you. I'm confident you will make it. 👍.

TIS THE SEASON by Allen Geven. To Allen: I appreciate your intro and am always interested in reading your words. I can appreciate your saying this is the best Christmas. Things seem to have turned out pretty well so far with the good luck hopefully continuing. I have said many times I respect your role in Ailana's life and admired the way you helped shape her into the good person she is today. It is a wonderful thing to be able to say you have no regrets. I am glad you will have a merry Christmas. Thank you for your post, sir.
