Chapter 03: CHRISTMAS THOUGHTS by Emma Knox

Well, I suppose you might have seen Merritt’s update yesterday, and I just want to say I agree with him. Everything feels really good and steady. But I already said that, so you probably know.

Now, today, I’m going in to work at the homeless shelter, so that’s on my mind. I want to ask you to consider something.

Go on Google and find a shelter or homeless program near you and call them up. Ask them what kind of little things they need for their program.

Then, if you’ve got any more Christmas shopping to do, buy some of what they need and make a donation. And if you just want to go out and buy a case of soap, I know they’d be happy to get that, too.

Plus, you could just get a contact name and address, and order it from Amazon, and have it shipped direct. That would be great, too.

I just hope when you’re thinking about gifts, maybe you’ll also think about gifts to programs that help people nobody else is trying to help.

Chapter 04: NEW VIEW by Kent Marlon

A year ago, I was in my parents’ house that was falling down around me. I was struggling to keep things together, running Marlon Electric and volunteering with Humanity Housing. I figured that was that. I figured that eventually, my life might include a girlfriend but I didn’t think I had any prospects.

Now, my thinking is different. As I see things now, my world is mostly improved.

My house almost literally fell down. The foundation had deteriorated to the point I couldn’t afford to fix it. I sold it to a flipper and moved into Crossroads Apartments. No regrets, and the money from the sale has given Marlon Electric a lot of breathing room.

Volunteering for Humanity Housing opened two very significant doors for me. One was that, now, I’m part of The Pay It Forward Society’s project team. So far, the missions have been pretty cool. We’ve done good work, and I think we’ve made a real difference.

Volunteering also put me in the presence of Izzy Duffy. And being with her from time to time led me to realize that I wanted to be with her a lot more. I’m not sure what came over her, but she’s letting me do that!

I’m not really sure what was last said about our relationship, but we are officially dating. This change in my life is probably most important to me. Having her in my life has sort of given a whole new feeling to pretty much everything.

So, my update is that the year has ended well for me. I’m hoping things keep going like this into the new year, too. Of all of it, though, I most hope things with Izzy stay on the great track they’ve been on so far.
