Chapter 29: IT’S ABOUT WATER by Emma Knox

Hi friends! I hope your new year is starting off peaceful, and that you feel hopeful about the days ahead. I’m praying this year brings steadiness where you need it — and maybe a few miracles where you don’t expect them. Thanks for being here with us.

So… The Pay It Forward Society sent word. We’ve got a mission. It will be in Africa, but we’re not supposed to say exactly where. They told us it isn’t about pointing fingers at one place. It’s because the problem we’re going to help with is everywhere.

Clean water.

I’ve been reading up, and it honestly surprised me. Around the world, 3 out of 4 people struggle in some way to get safe drinking water—either it’s too far, too expensive, or not clean enough. When you think about how easy it is for most of us to turn a handle and fill a cup, it makes you stop and feel really thankful. And a little responsible, too.

Our trip starts January 16. We’ll be back on Sunday, January 18—except Paul told us it’s really more like “very early Monday the 19th,” and to just plan on going straight to work off the plane. So… coffee will be happening. A lot of it.

Between now and then, we’ll be packing supplies, learning what we can, and trying to stay calm. I’m a little nervous, but also excited. Helping people get clean water feels like the kind of thing that matters in quiet ways that last a long time.

I’ll keep you posted as we learn more. Thanks for cheering us on, and for caring about people you may never meet. That means something. See you soon.
