GOOD MORNING
Okay, so it’s Thursday. And if my to-do list gets its way, there won’t be much free time, but I do want to share the day with you.
Now I’ll backtrack. Being home, I’ve already planned a walk around the area for dinner time. I’ll get by Dad’s place and steal a few hugs. Then, we’ll go from there…
But between now and then, I’ve got to get to work! Almost three weeks away from full days of productivity has left me really behind. I’ll not go into the finances but when you work by the piece, you have to keep grinding!
But! Hang on!
Today, I’m going to try out working from the new office area. I’ll tell you a little about it later. For now, let me remind you what the remodel was about.
When we bought this condo building, the second level had two three-bedroom units on it. In total, there were six bedrooms, four baths, two kitchens, and two large living areas. Clay and Sasha Everett and Josh and Geoni Ryan owned one of them and Dad and Grammy owned the other. The original idea was that the Ryans and Everetts probably wouldn’t be here at the same time very often.
Things turned out differently.
When Dad and Grammy moved over to Red Snapper Street, the idea for the remodel was born. The end result is a whole lot better.
There are now two two-bedroom units, each with two baths, a kitchen, and a comfortable living space. The Everetts and Ryans will live there. There is also a one-bedroom efficiency unit where Micah and Jasmine Banks now live. And part of the space was converted into an AGI/SwimFit work area with computer desks, printer/copier, bathroom, and small kitchenette.
Most of the work was moving walls, adding some pipes, doors, and wires, and then finishing it—new flooring, new paint, etc. All of that is now done, so the Ryans and Everetts have a lot more privacy, the Banks have a nice unit to live in, and AGI/SwimFit has a very functional work area.

OFFICE SPACE
Well so far, I like the office area. It’s really set up well, and for the most part, I think a lot of good work is going to happen here.
There are windows that look toward the beach, and that’s nice. The door is centered on one wall leading into the room. To the left is the bathroom and kitchenette. In the corner to the right of the door is a work area. On the wall opposite the door, in the corner on the right, is a second workstation. In the corner to the left is what I’m calling Jasmine’s desk.
“I’ve never had my own desk,” she said.
As a nurse, she worked at the nurses’ station, a shared space.
To be fully fair, Sasha will also use that desk, but from the opposite side. I think there’s a name for that kind of desk, but I’m not going to look it up! Okay… okay…
I looked it up. It’s called a partners’ desk. Fitting name!
So, besides our project management team (Sasha and Jasmine,) two groups (or individuals) can be working at the other two workstations. Each has a really nice iMac with an extra monitor. Of course there are various chargers for iPhones, laptops, and iPads.
There is also, sort of in the middle, a sofa grouping around a coffee table. That will also be a good space!
This is going to be a great collaboration space. Jason can be working on images at the same desk Josh is—on his laptop—working on the copy to go with them. Jasmine and Sasha can share their corner or spread out as needed. You get the idea…
But, for me… back to that “for the most part” thing… If I’m in my head making up scenes and stories, I’m not sure I’ll do as well in a group setting as if I’m by myself. I’ll probably spend a lot of creative time in my condo and then do edits and other work here.
So there you go! I guess you’ll see more of the space as time goes on. I’ll be back tonight, so see you then!
LUCKY DAY by Kaylee Branch
So I’m back to go on with my story, I guess. I’ll start by saying that I feel real lucky today.
Isaac and me work by the job. Piece work, some would say. We are most busy early in the week because a lot of folks check out on Sunday. Sometimes, another renter is coming in later that day or on Monday.
So Thursdays aren’t usually busy, but we had a two-bedroom to turn around this morning. Then Mr. Callahan called and said this four-bedroom had been checked out of, and the regular crew couldn’t do it, so we picked it up.
We get $125 for the two-bedrooms, and that takes us working together about an hour and a half. For a four-bedroom, it takes two hours or a little more, and we get $175. Well, whoever checked out of this one left it nearly spotless. We had to vacuum, sanitize the bathrooms, change the beds, and all that, but we’re gonna be done in less than an hour.
So not only did we get an extra job, it was a big one, and it won’t take much time at all. So, I count this a lucky day.
We started doing this work in the fall of 2024, and it’s been good for us. Everything about moving here has been nice—a lot nicer than living back in San Benito. And it only costs us $750 a month.
Our campground is on the south end of South Padre Island. I got a map off Google so you can see this time. It’s right by the church we go to and close to the beach.
Sometimes, once Hudson goes down, Isaac will stay with him and I just go walking. I love the sounds of the waves, especially when most people have gone back inside.
I might have said living here feels like being on vacation sometimes. I mean that.
And I’m also grateful that I get to share my story with you. It won’t be every day, of course, but I’ll try to have something to say when something interesting comes along.
FLIGHT TO INDIA by Min Aurora
I have had a change of plans. We can thank—or blame—my sister, Anika. Unbeknownst to me, a few years ago she was in a serious relationship with a man who ended up working with me in Tibet and India.
Dr. Amir Kumar being hastily deployed by Health For Humanity to Tibet slammed the brakes on their relationship. Now, I do have a little beef with him for spending almost two years working with me but never mentioning he was trying to get my sister to marry him!
His explanation—oh, be sure I’ve had words with him as a friend and soon-to-be sister-in-law—is that he thought Anika would not go through with their plans. She was hurt that his work took priority. Time gradually revealed to her that what we were doing wasn’t just a job—it was a crisis intervention.
As soon as Health for Humanity was absorbed by a bigger agency, he dropped everything and went back to Hyderabad where she was still working. That’s when their happily ever after started.
So, I never made it to Singapore, but really I was just looking for an adventure to fill some time before I head home to the US. I’ve got a lot to work out, but first I have to do something traditional in Hyderabad at a wedding.
I just took off from Kuala Lumpur International Airport. Honestly, I am definitely looking forward to seeing Anika—it was 2023 when she took a job with the ICMR Collaborative Unit. I was already doing missions for Health for Humanity at that point.
So we’ve got a lot of catching up to do! And maybe adventures don’t always look like mountains and maps. Sometimes they look like family.
GOOD NIGHT
As planned, Jason and I, along with Jasmine and Micah, took a walk around the area after dinner, which Jasmine mostly prepared. She made vegetables from cans and broiled some boneless pork chops that came out like butter.
Late in the afternoon, I walked away from my to-do list and joined Jason with his. We moved some of the photography gear from the garage to his condo. We moved a few things up to the office. And we set out repacking the rest to get ready for the move over to the forthcoming AGI studio space.
I’m not sure who is more excited—Jason or Jasmine—though Micah is pretty revved up about it, too. He feels like the team heard his idea and thought it was good, then Josh took some steps to see it happen.
After all the moving, packing, and carrying things up the stairs, I opted for a fresh shower and clean clothes. So, now we’re walking and talking about the studio. Of course, I stopped everyone so I could get a picture for this post. Jason set up the camera, and Jasmine took the image.
There’s something really nice about seeing knowledge shared and talents pooled. I think that might be one of the best things about the AGI group. We share our abilities just as readily as we share in the fun of each day.
Tomorrow, Sasha and Jasmine want everyone to assemble around noon. Geoni promises to do pita sandwiches and sliced veggies so we can have lunch at the same time. I know we just got back from being gone for three weeks, but something about moss and a rolling stone and all that… We’re going to start looking ahead.
Now, I’ll say goodnight and get back to our walk.
May you know your best talents and find ways to pass them on to others who wish to learn.
Good night.
Be your best you!
