GOOD MORNING

JUST CHILLING by Cindi Curtis—It’s Saturday morning, and so far, I have power and Internet. I also have a surprising, growing awareness.

Bartlett—the Memphis suburb where I live—is taking part in the 2026 Snowpocalypse along with a giant swath of the U.S.

Jordan called, however, to check on me and—to quietly change my worldview.

“Hey, you okay out there?” she asked.

“I’m fine. How about you?”

She laughed. “Hayes and I were just joking about how cool it would have been if we got snowed in with Carter and Roman.”

I laughed. “That would have been cute, while it lasted…”

She didn’t reply immediately, then she said, “It won’t be above freezing for a few days. You sure you’re okay? Do you have food and all that?”

“I have enough,” I said. “The store is literally walking distance. When the plows run, I might make a run to pick up a few more things.”

Silence again, then she said. “Cindi… I need to tell you something…”

“Yes?”

“There are no plows. The plows aren’t coming.”

“Wait? What?”

Realizing that, her snowed-in comment would have been cute for a whole lot longer!

I took some pictures from my front porch, and then I looked some things up.

Memphis, Tennessee, has a population of around 630,000 people. It has about 15 snow plows.

Colorado Springs has a population of around 500,000 people. It has 50 snow plows—and a proper salt stockpile.
