Better Flow…

Over the months, I've been trying to find ways in which I could deliver pieces of exclusive content to the members who are paying. I have been able to do that by adding a pay line at certain points in the middle of the post and then having an exclusive content after that.

This has worked fine on posts with several sections, but for posts with only one section it is resulted in sort of a clumsy layout.

What I have done is move what I call "gratuitous self promotion" section higher onto the page, allowing the sections to flow together more easily. On posts with a single section, the exclusive content can naturally flow without a interruption.

The Downside…

The downside of this new layout is that there will be more scrolling to get to the first entry. I don't think that is a terrible alternative. Once you get to the first entry—in the case of this post, the "Better Flow…" section—the rest of the post will flow naturally without interruption.

Overall, I think this will make a better reading experience.

If you're inclined to share your thoughts on this, I would like to hear them. It doesn't feel like a huge change, but I thought it was notable enough to let you know why you had to do more scrolling just to get to the place where the content actually begins.

For Example…

What this means for subscribers is that the exclusive content can more seamlessly connect to short posts. For example, a post with only one section might include a picture, the narrative, and then the paywall followed by perhaps another picture or additional thoughts and comments. The "gratuitous self promotion" section would not interrupt the flow of a short post.
