GOOD ?AFTERNOON?

I’m posting this at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday Seoul time, which still feels unreal to say out loud.

The time difference is about 15 hours from home, and my brain is still trying to decide what day it is. I crashed into a nap around 4 a.m. after we got here… and somehow slept until almost 8. I guess travel humbles the body into obedience. Now everyone is up, moving, adjusting, and I’m standing here bundled up trying to look brave about it.

It’s 15°F here this morning (that’s about -9°C), and I am absolutely having second thoughts about leaving South Padre Island where it’s drifting into the low 70s today. There is something very wrong about knowing you voluntarily walked away from sunshine for this level of cold. Still… there’s a beauty to it. A crispness. A quiet clarity.

I’m on the hotel grounds posing for Geoni in this replica temple. It’s a very nice immersion into the history without actually going anywhere.

I got curious this morning and did a little reading. South Korea has such a layered history. Mountains cover most of the land, and the country is bordered by the Yellow Sea to the west and the Sea of Japan (East Sea) to the east. It’s a place shaped by resilience—kingdoms, invasions, rebuilding, and now this blend of ancient tradition sitting right beside ultra-modern life.

Seoul itself feels like that contrast in motion. Skyscrapers, winding streets, mountains framing the skyline, centuries-old architecture tucked into neighborhoods that hum with technology and movement. It feels both fast and deeply rooted at the same time.

I’m just beginning to take it in. I’ll be back later with something from today once we’ve seen a bit more

See you soon!

GOOD NIGHT

Starting my day at 10:00 a.m. has my brain still spinning! This is the time at home when I usually do my Good Morning post. Now, I’m posting a Good Night post!

So, we were all sort of settling into the day and the city this afternoon, and Sasha asked Jasmine to find some place in Seoul on Google Maps with a lot of stars. Jasmine picked this place.

It’s called Lagniappe, and it indeed has a lot of stars! Plot twist—it is not Korean food, nor is it Asian food.

The menu here leans toward comforting Western favorites with that twist of something special—from hearty steaks and fresh catch entrees to shareable appetizers and cozy sides—and the vibe shifts perfectly from casual lunch spot to relaxed dinner hangout as the evening deepens.

The service is warm, the portions are generous, and there’s this easygoing energy where people come in for big conversations, good food, and that delightful feeling of being welcomed. It was the perfect stop to refill, reset, and soak up another slice of this city’s endless layers.

And if I stop to think about it, it was a good way to ease into Seoul. I’m vexed enough dealing with posting a Good Night post at 6:00 a.m. Texas time! Familiar food was a good decision.

May your days fill you with comfort, whether you are at home or far away, and may your time with friends give you peace, even in unfamiliar circumstances.

Good night…

OKAY SO FAR? by Jasmine Banks

I’m about to go to bed. It’s coming up on noon here at home. Sasha and the rest of the AGI gang are about four hours from getting up for Monday.

Sasha asked me to find them a place to eat for dinner last night—she texted me at like 4:00 a.m. my time. I found a place with good reviews and a lot of stars, just like she asked.

Except it was Western food, just like they could have had down the street! She told me not to worry—that Ailana said it was nice to be able to understand what she was eating the first night. So I suppose it was okay.

Yesterday, Allen Geven came by and asked if he could steal Micah for a late lunch—speaking of that place down the street. Micah came back saying he’d met a guy Allen works with named Isaac.

Isaac and his wife, Kaylee, and their two-year-old live here on the island in the campground by the church. Micah said he was excited to have met a guy about our age and thought we might hang out with them sometime.

I said that sounded great, just not while I’m trying to work in one time zone and live in this one. He laughed and assured me he could imagine my struggles.

As for struggles, I’m about to struggle myself into bed. Sasha promised not to message me or anything until it was afternoon there.

Keep watching for posts from Ailana. I’m as excited to see what they’re up to as you are!

Good night…

Be your best you!

GOOD ?AFTERNOON?. Good whatever is to you, Ailana. You must be talented to look that good in that much cold. It sounds like so much to do, careful planning to get it all in. Thanks for the update and have a good day.

GOOD NIGHT. Lagniappe. You made it sound so interesting, a Western food restaurant in Seoul, I had to look it up. A Cajun French word that means "a little something extra". Glad you enjoyed and it started things off right. Thank you for the update. Enjoy!

OKAY SO FAR? by Jasmine Banks. Hello Jasmine. I think you did great picking a restaurant. And Kaylee and Isaac sound like good people that you will enjoy getting to know. I hope Sasha doesn't sling your schedule around too much with the time zone difference. Plus it's much warmer where you are. Thanks for the update.
