WORK BORA BORA by Hayes Markel

You probably won’t believe this, but we are really getting a lot of work done.

Earlier, Roman said, “Why don’t we work like this as a rule?”

“Because you’d be bankrupt after the second trip like this.”

He smiled. “Believe it or not, all those travel points and frequent-flyer miles since I started LDM covered most of this one.”

I did a quick accounting and figured he was only exaggerating a little. “But now that they’re gone?”

Roman typed out something—probably a pithy comment in his code—then he looked over. “My per diem covers my trips, and usually a bit more. We scale back on accommodations and food, chip in a little extra… you come with me. I can afford your airfare. If we downgrade a little on hotels, it could happen.”

I looked over at him. He was serious, and I liked the idea.

“Okay, next trip, loop me in on the planning. I’ll see if the numbers actually come out like you say. But we need a real cap on your out-of-pocket—and that has to be firm, non-negotiable. If we need to skip meals, so be it.”

Roman smiled. “Hayes, I need you in my life.”

Words came out of my mouth faster than I could stop them. “Marry me and we can save on hotel rooms.”

Roman didn’t blink. “Let’s let Cindi and Michael have their special moment, then we can make that happen.”

He was so matter-of-fact that I just nodded and answered like it was a business idea. “Okay… Let’s make that work.”

He stopped and looked at me again. “So you’ll marry me?”

I stopped what I was doing and looked over. “Is this your idea of a proposal or are you prequalifying?”

Roman smiled and tapped out some more code then looked over. “I’ll get a ring then.”

He said it like he wasn’t changing things forever between us! He knows my size because he’s bought me presents in the past, so now I guess there’s an official proposal in the making.

Stay tuned for more?

Be your best you!

Thank-You Message to Paying Supporters:

It is my belief that most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. I am honored and greatly moved.

I know that I share a LOT of content FREE TO ALL. I'd imagine that you understand why. The stories about giving back and helping seem like they shouldn't be exclusive. Certain plot moments need to be understood by anyone trying to to follow the stories.

With that in mind, I always consider you, the paid members, when deciding how to share content.

My hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!

Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post, not counting hardware, AGI Stories racks up expenses of just over $100 per month.

Again, thank you very, very much.
