Chapter 86: SO WHAT by Eric Marsten
Things have moved fast since we decided to let Shay move into the Crossroads Apartments and send decoys out on a road trip pretending to be her and Devon. The combined efforts of the Ryder corporate world were able to do some amazing things
On Sunday, the ID swap happens. Mara-as-Shay and Evan-as-Devon hit the road. The real Shay and Devon will come back here and begin living by the names of the people serving as their decoys.
Conner—who moved in here—and I are going over the logistics of the swap. The decoys dress nicely and go to Shay’s West Village house as generic humans. There, they will dress for the road trip and mingle with everyone until it's time to go. Shay and Devon will already be dressed in outfits matching what was worn by the decoys, so when they leave, anyone—however unlikely—watching will see the same people leave as they saw arrive.
“So,” I asked Conner, “what does all of this actually accomplish?”
“For one thing, Shay will be a lot happier and possibly safer.”
“Happier because?” I was pretty sure he’d say what I was thinking.
“Because she won’t be alone in a four-bedroom, five-bath, three-story townhome. She’ll be around people who accept her.”
“She won’t feel like they do,” I added.
“Maybe in time she will… The big win for safety will be if she lets Olivia hang out with her outside the building.”
“Or you,” I said.
“Yeah. The thing is, there’re no known threats on the board.” Conner said, “And even if there was a threat to Shay, we have a seven-person team guarding someone the world should think is Mara Voss.”
“But,” I said, “the big win is that Shay will be happier. Just getting to hang out with Hannah and Addison… for instance…”
Conner nodded. “Everyone we vetted into the secret here are good people. Shay has to be happier… by having social connections.”
“Yeah.” I couldn’t agree more.
“Hope she likes popcorn,” Conner added. “Muffins… Pancakes… Omelet day is pretty nice. Shay’s going to think she moved into a family that actually cares.”
Be your best you!

Thank-You Message to Paying Supporters:
It is my belief that most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. I am honored and greatly moved.
I know that I share a LOT of content FREE TO ALL. I'd imagine that you understand why. The stories about giving back and helping seem like they shouldn't be exclusive. Certain plot moments need to be understood by anyone trying to to follow the stories.
With that in mind, I always consider you, the paid members, when deciding how to share content.
My hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!
Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet connectivity fees) AGI Stories racks up expenses of just over $100 per month. Every supporter is helping!
Again, thank you very, very much.
