GOOD MORNING
Well, despite the interruptions yesterday, today is the day we shove off for our voyage on “Savannah’s Charm.” The first leg is across the Gulf to Mobile, Alabama. We should get there Thursday morning.
Once we get to Mobile, we’ll harbor hop our way back to South Padre Island. At each stop, we’ll go ashore to find interesting things we can share with you and turn into articles we can sell.
So today begins the AGI Creative Group Goes to Sea adventure!
Be warned that although “Savannah’s Charm” is a big boat, it’s still a confined space with a limited number of places for pictures. So, for a while… yeah… well… it will be fine, right?
I need to get the last of my luggage down to the Highlander now. I’ll check in later when we are ready to shove off.
See you then.
ALL TO SHORE
I’m actually thinking about yelling that when I get to “Savannah’s Charm”—you know, like on a cruise before it launches. I hope no one takes me up on it.
On second thought, maybe I’ll just hold my tongue.
I’ve said before that I find life at sea very enjoyable. The simplicity of it all is surprisingly relaxing.
You have what you have when you're out to sea. If you don’t have something you think you need, you shrug and use what you have.
Of course Clay and Sasha carefully plan for all the needs. But there’s always room for creative uses of the provisions. Geoni can look in the fridge and see five different ways to do things with whatever’s in there.
So what do you say? Let’s get going!
While we’re underway, let me know if you think you’d like to spend a few days out to sea. Tell me what you think.
See you soon.
LUNCH
Don’t worry, everything is under control. I think I’ve got this covered!
While we were unpacking after leaving the marina, Sasha took the helm and Clay said he’d make lunch.
Okay, so yeah… he did. No one goes hungry on his watch!
Our trip should be relatively simple. Leaving South Padre Island, we will steer east northeast and quickly settle into open Gulf water.Within a few hours, the Texas coast will fade behind us and the horizon will turn into nothing but blue in every direction. The first stretch will be quiet sailing across the western Gulf, watching the weather and keeping a comfortable distance south of the oil platforms and shipping lanes.
As we approach Louisiana waters, we will begin to see more traffic—tankers and supply boats moving toward the rigs and the Mississippi.
From there we will turn slightly east, running parallel to the northern Gulf coast but still well offshore. As we get closer to Alabama, the color of the sea will shift greener until we reach the wide entrance to Mobile Bay. That’s our next port of call.
After lunch, I’m going to camp out in my stateroom with my laptop and get some work done. “Savannah’s Charm” has a satellite internet link and Wi-Fi, so we can keep the work going.
Thanks for being along for the cruise. See you tonight.
GOOD NIGHT
This is my stateroom. Hope you like it. You’ll see a lot of it over the next few weeks. Especially when we are not in a marina.
I have my supply of colorful blankets and robes. Not an unlimited supply, but a few just to give some variety. And as most of you know, the robes are just for the picture.
And occasionally, for a sneaky trip late at night to the galley!
The day has been great. So far, we’re moving according to plan. Sasha is back at the helm monitoring the autopilot. Jason will relieve her in a few hours. When we’re out to sea, there’s not a lot to do unless something unexpected comes up.
Of course, Clay is ready to take over if needed.
Jasmine and Micah seem to have relaxed—it’s their first time being out of sight of land. Jasmine said it makes her feel small compared to the world. Micah agreed, but what he really wanted was to have a look at the twin 57-hp Yanmar diesel engines that power the yacht (in addition to the sails used when out at sea).
I suppose this is a good place to wrap up for the night. Thanks for being part of the journey.
May you treasure the companions who share your life journey. May laughter come easily, burdens grow lighter when carried together, and the miles—whether calm or rough—leave you wiser, kinder, and grateful for the people beside you.
Good night.
Be your best you!

Thank-You Message to Paying Supporters:
Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet connectivity fees) AGI Stories racks up expenses of just over $100 per month. Every supporter is helping!
I fully believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the creative process and offer encouragement. I’m honored by that and genuinely moved.
I realize that I share a lot of content free to everyone. I imagine most of you understand why. The stories about giving back and helping others feel like they shouldn’t be locked behind a pay-wall, and some plot moments need to remain accessible for anyone following the larger narrative.
With that in mind, I always keep you—the paid members—in mind when deciding how to share things.
I hope that reserving a few photos and small sections of each post for you serves as a modest expression of my gratitude.
Again, thank you very, very much.
