Chapter 33: IF THE FRY FITS… by Izzy Duffy

If you’ve been reading about things at Crossroads Apartments, you know the last month was pretty crazy. Kent and I helped where we could, but otherwise just tried to keep our heads low.

Kent and Merritt sit and talk together a lot in the mornings. I live with Addison, so you can guess that if she’s awake, we’re chatting about something. Now that Shay has moved in (by the name of Mara Voss), she and I spend a lot of time talking, too.

I tell you that so you don’t think we’re holed up somewhere being lonely. Of course, Kent and I spend a lot of time with each other, like today.

Lunch talk was pretty much (as we say in mental health) unremarkable until he took my hand and slipped a French fry on it. I camped it up, of course.

“You shouldn’t have! Oh my!”

He laughed and I fed the fry to him, then he sort of waxed serious.

“Shouldn’t have or should have by now?”

I smiled. “Well, let’s see… We’ve known each other ever since I got to New York back in 2024. We’ve been dating since… call it October 2025. You got any complaints?”

He shook his head. “Not a one.”

“Neither do I.”

He smiled again. “So maybe it’s time. You’re pushing thirty…”

I interrupted. “Hang on now! Twenty-seven in April is definitely not pushing thirty! And look who’s talking, Mr. Twenty-eight.”

“Okay, so we’re at a good age to call it forever, then? Right?”

“We’re not getting younger. We’ve got ourselves stable. When you ask, I’ll probably say yes.”

“Probably?” Kent pretended to be upset.

“You shouldn’t have eaten my ring.”

We did quit goofing around and said we ought to spend some serious time in prayer about it. Leave the topic alone for two weeks and then revisit.

Now, let’s be perfectly clear. Agreeing that we should get engaged is not the same as getting engaged. We talked about what happens if, and thought maybe a six month engagement seemed like a good idea.

Also, Paul and Rebecca need to hurry up and PICK A DATE! Sheesh!

Be your best you!

Thank-You Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet connectivity fees) AGI Stories racks up expenses of just over $100 per month. Every supporter is helping!

I fully believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the creative process and offer encouragement. I’m honored by that and genuinely moved.

I realize that I share a lot of content free to everyone. I imagine most of you understand why. The stories about giving back and helping others feel like they shouldn’t be locked behind a pay-wall, and some plot moments need to remain accessible for anyone following the larger narrative.

With that in mind, I always keep you—the paid members—in mind when deciding how to share things.

I hope that reserving a few photos and small sections of each post for you serves as a modest expression of my gratitude.

Again, thank you very, very much.

Apologies to Chick-fil-a and it's dedicated customers. Chick-fil-a has waffle fries. Kent and Izzy must have been at a location testing a new product that one day???

Chapter 33: IF THE FRY FITS… by Izzy Duffy. Apologies to the fourth wall, but...forgiven. Call it...artistic license. The conversation is the point here. Very interesting. And ...true! It has been broached. Let it percolate. You do find it easy to be around each other. But I don't know if, in all this time, you have discussed life goals. Children? Suburbs? City? You could certainly get engaged at Crossroads, but is it plausible to stay on after a possible marriage? You two would have to decide that, um, down the road. Percolate for now and don't rush. Make sure. Thanks for the update. For the bonus photos. I see that you are having a good day. Carry on.
