GOOD MORNING

We are sailing west at a leisurely pace. I made a map image to sort of show how things are going.

For the sake of discussion, let’s say we were near Port Eads around the time I did the post last night. The next marina we want to visit is in Galveston, which is a little over 300 nautical miles away. Let’s say we knocked off 30 nautical miles while I slept.

Whereas it’s Saturday now, we have a little less than 40 hours of sailing to go if we keep a pace around 7 knots.. That’s actually not a stretch, given that the diesels can push at 7.5 knots for, like, 1000 miles. (Numbers are rendered in “discussion” format and are not exact.)

So, we keep going today—Saturday—and tomorrow—Sunday, and we could reach Galveston around 1:00 a.m. on Monday. But it would be the middle of the night and all that.

Clay wants to build in a couple of near-shore anchor drops so that we end up getting to Galveston closer to 8:00 a.m. on Monday. That’s the plan.

And I’m going to bring you along with me. But first, I need to get to the galley and help somebody do something.

While I do that, I hope you have a great morning. See you soon!

SKIRTING THE SHORE

You’re back! So happy that you found us. And I hope your day is going well.

Since we’re just sailing along, and with the weather being nice, the consensus was to break out bikinis and enjoy the day.

Ahem…the men are in swim trunks that are definitely not bikinis.

Guess what? Geography lesson! I’m going to get ChatGPT to tell you about the south Louisiana coastline. Here goes!

The Louisiana Gulf Coast is a low, shifting landscape where land and water blend together in a complex network of wetlands. East of New Orleans, the Mississippi River spreads into the Mississippi River Delta, a maze of passes, mudflats, and fragile marsh islands extending into the Gulf. This region is constantly reshaped by sediment flow, tides, and storms.

West of New Orleans, the coastline becomes a broad expanse of bayous, estuaries, and shallow lakes, including areas around Barataria Bay and Terrebonne Parish. Here, winding waterways connect inland swamps to the Gulf, forming one of the most intricate wetland systems in North America.

Scattered barrier islands create some narrow, sandy beaches, but they are often remote and constantly changing. Much of the coast remains exposed—making it both ecologically rich and highly vulnerable to hurricanes and coastal erosion.

Along this area we’re in, there aren’t any marinas on the scale of Gulfport or Galveston. That’s why we’re just sailing on. We’ve passed in sight of a few oil drilling platforms, but we’re keeping our distance.

We’re going to keep moving along. We’re timing it to arrive in Galveston Monday morning, so it’s easygoing until then.

I’ll be back with a goodnight of some sort! See you then.

EXECUTIVE DECISION by Allen Geven

I’ve been by my house on my way here—on my way to do some walkthroughs for Dave Callahan. Based on what I saw at my house, I’ve made an executive decision.

I made a couple of calls. The second one was to Josh Ryan.

“Josh, I have something I think should happen.”

“Okay, what’s that?”

I told him about hiring Mateo to take care of my lawn. I told him I went by the Whiting property and had an idea.

“My yard looks amazing. Mateo says he can take care of yours for $25 a week. I kind of told him it was a deal. I kinda told him it was a deal. If you disagree, consider it me doing that dad thing for Ailana.

“Hey, if you think he’s good, let’s go for it.”

“He seems like a good kid, and based on what I’ve seen, he’ll do a great job.”

Josh passed the phone to Jasmine, who said, “Just send me his Venmo, and I’ll see he gets paid each week. Give him the AGI phone number, and tell him to text when he’s done. Simple.”

I’m going to call Mateo and act like I understood what she said, but I’ll give him the number and tell him to call her.

GOOD NIGHT

We’re in the Gulf. We’re south of Louisiana. That’s close enough, right?

It was a great day. Very relaxing.

Dad called with a great solution to our yardwork needs. He found a young man that lives on the island trying to make some money doing yard work.

Something about that feels really good to me. And I know not everyone has that—and I don’t take it for granted.

Dad still has my back. I’m twenty-nine, and he’s still looking out for me. A lot of you will recall when he challenged my total view on Jason and my relationship. “Is ‘okay’ good enough? For how long?”

Coming off a visit with Jason’s parents, I’m left thinking what a blessing it is to have people—family or not—who choose to look after us.

I’m sure some of you don’t feel as lucky. I guess I understand if I think about my own mother—but I try hard not to think about her. Perhaps you had others in your life who did what your parents didn’t do. Maybe it wasn’t your parents. Maybe it was someone else who stepped in when they didn’t.

And I’m sure some of you have lost wonderful parents. I hope you can still remember what it felt like to experience their love.

So today, Dad stepped up again. Once more he did something he didn’t have to do to make my life a little better.

That’s my wish for everyone…

May you recall all the times that someone showed you love that wasn’t required and helped make your life a little better.

Good night.

Be your best you!

A GREAT LIFE by Kaylee Branch

Isaac and me had a good day, but we worked hard. Then Isaac had a few hours of work around the campground to do, like he does sometimes for the owner.

Me and Hudson stayed here in the camper. My little guy has a tooth coming in, and he’s not very happy about it. After a day of work, I was sort of worn down by the time Isaac got home.

“Go ahead and get in the bed,” he said. “I’ll take Hudson out and get him a scoop of ice cream. The cold will soothe his mouth.”

Now we don’t usually do anything like that! Ice cream before bedtime?

But I agreed. So I showered up and got in the bed. No Isaac, no Hudson, no TV, no anything. Just me, silence, and the camper.

And when I got still, there it was… The waves rolling into the beach.

There’s something about that sound. It’s telling me that we made it. We’re not in San Benito anymore. We’re not living in a rundown apartment hoping the air doesn't go out in the middle of August.

I couldn’t help but smile. Wave after wave rolling onto the beach, and me—in my bed—listening. They’re saying something.

“Kaylee, you got it good. Be thankful.”

I wanted to share this moment with you. I hope your life is as good as mine!

Message to Paying Supporters:

I'm experimenting with having a full entry for paying supporters after the traditional "Good Night" entry. It seems like it can work (time permitting). I guess the challenge for me will be to write meaningful stories, yet not have them include details that everyone needs to know to keep up with the plot.I think tonight's is pretty much ideal. There's a deep dive into Kaylee's thoughts and her reflection on the day.

Yet, people who don't see it can still follow the story going forward…

Any reactions to this? I love your input, ideas, and feedback.

And as always…

Thank-You:

It is my belief that most of you who help with the costs are doing so because you want to support the production process and show your encouragement. I am honored and greatly moved.

I know that I share a LOT of content FREE TO ALL. I'd imagine that you understand why. The stories about giving back and helping seem like they shouldn't be exclusive. Certain plot moments need to be understood by anyone trying to to follow the stories.

With that in mind, I always consider you, the paid members, when deciding how to share content.

My hope is that reserving a few pictures and small sections of the post for you is a modest indication of gratitude!

Thank you very much for your help underwriting the cost of producing AGI Stories content. You can be sure that your paid membership is valued greatly! At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet connectivity fees) AGI Stories racks up expenses of just over $100 per month. Every supporter is helping!

Again, thank you very, very much.

EXECUTIVE DECISION by Allen Geven. Hello Allen. Thanks for letting us hear from you. $25 a week sounds like an incredible value. And with a conscientious worker, too. No wonder you decided to executively decide to hire him for Josh, also. It says a lot about you that Josh would trust you to decide for him. Nice. Have a good rest of your day.
