Chapter 53: CHECKING IN by Emma Knox

Well hey there. I hope y’all are doing well and taking care of yourselves. Things have been moving along here, and I figured I’d check in a little.

This morning we all ended up in the common room for breakfast. Addison said it was “muffin day,” and I guess that meant we were supposed to make way more muffins than anybody could reasonably eat.

There were blueberry, chocolate chip, and some kind with nuts I didn’t try. She always does that—makes sure there’s extra like she’s feeding twice as many people. But I think she just likes seeing everyone have more than enough. Me and Noah each had two, and there were still plenty left sitting on the counter. Kent packed up some for his lunch, even.

Things with me and Noah are going real good. We’re not rushing anything, but we’re both happy with how it’s going. We spend a lot of time just talking—sometimes about nothing at all, and sometimes about things that matter more. It’s nice having both. We laugh a lot, too, which I didn’t think about before, but I guess that’s important.

School’s going well, but it’s hard. I study a lot more than I ever thought I would. Hannah helps me with math sometimes when I get stuck, and Noah’s been helping me with science. I don’t know what I’d do without that. I still think I’d like to go into social work, like Izzy is doing. The more I learn, the more that feels right to me.

Spring break is coming up, and I’m really looking forward to that. Even just having a few days to breathe will be nice. I don’t have anything big planned, but I think that might be the best kind.

I’m not going to go into all the changes with Shay, since that’s already been talked about quite a bit, but I will say this—I think she seems a lot happier. And that’s good to see.

That’s about all for now. Thanks for reading my story.

Chapter 54: ALL IN by Mara Voss

We made it to Chattanooga. Since we’re here, we decided to go for it! Full on tourist mode.

Evan sprang for a UT T-shirt. There’s some treason to his alma mater, but call it being undercover.

So where are we? Maybe you’ve seen the barns. Maybe you’ve seen pictures of them.

“See Rock City.”

Well, okay, then. If we must.

Here’s a quick blurb about this place’s history, just in case you wanted to know.

Rock City, located atop Lookout Mountain near Chattanooga, traces its origins to the 1800s when the land was owned by Garnet and Frieda Carter. In the 1930s, Frieda helped develop the site’s iconic gardens and winding trails, promoting it with the famous “See Rock City” barn ads across the Southeast. Today, Rock City is a major tourist attraction, known for its scenic overlooks, unique rock formations, and seasonal events, drawing visitors year-round.

(Props, ChatGPT, for the info!)

We’re not going to try to post every day, but since it’s our first day in Chattanooga, we thought we should. And how could we visit Rock City and not share some images?

Be your best you!

You are very social yourself, so social work could very well be the path for you. I'd say Shay has totally changed all of your lives. Positively. But changed. We readers enjoy your story. Please continue sharing. Have a nice day.
