BACK TO THE ROUTINE by Hayes Markel

It’s a different kind of Monday. Compared to the last few, that is.

My hair was still wet, and I was wrapped in a towel, trying to sneak quietly to the kitchen for coffee. I thought Jordan might be sleeping, but I was wrong.

She was on the phone with the company in Perth. She was up early. They were working late.

Coffee in hand, I waved at her as I went back to my room—my office. Once dressed, and with a second cup in my mug, I opened my computer—then stopped in my metaphorical tracks.

My habit is to start the day by looking for notes and tasks from Michael. I smiled, wondering if he and Cindi are relaxing and enjoying Hot Springs. Somehow, I think they are.

Jordan and I worked independently until around 11, when Carter came over. He reported he’d made face-to-face visits with several of the ClearStream Memphis area clients.

We all went to lunch together, arguing about who was running ClearStream this week, each of us pointing at someone different. I appointed Jordan since she has seniority. SShe said Carter was the most educated. He said I pay the bills and send out invoices. We settled for the impasse.

After lunch, we joked about frozen slushy drinks from Circle K. Why wouldn’t we?

Then our joking became reality.

As we got back in the car, we agreed that we had a lot to do this week. Michael and Cindi’s wedding was amazing, but it distracted us all a little.

Now, the three of us will focus and get back to what we’re supposed to do. As a team, we help our clients explain who they are and what they do to their customers and prospects.

Somewhere along the way, we have realized we’re pretty good at that.

Michael… Cindi… We miss you, but we’ve got things covered. Don’t worry about things back here.
