Chapter 62: SOMETHING NEW by Emma Knox
Well, everyone, it’s Saturday morning, and I’m just now getting a shower. I’ve been talking to Hannah—when I got to the kitchen earlier, she was already having coffee.
“I waited up for you last night,” she said. “I wanted to talk to you, but I didn’t hear you come in.”
“Me and Noah sat out in the common room pretty late. He kinda dozed off, and I just let him be. What did you want to talk about?”
She took a breath and looked down. “You’re happy with Noah?”
“Yeah, I am. We’re good together. Easy, you know?”
She nodded. “You know we’ve said before that we feel more like sisters than roommates, and I believe that.”
“Me too.”
“Let me just get to the point. Last night Merritt and I decided to try dating each other. Since you’ve already started dating Noah, I decided it would be okay to say yes without talking to you about it.”
Well, at first I was shocked about a hundred ways. One was that it happened. Another was that she thought she needed to talk to me.
“You don’t have to ask me,” I said.
“Emma, I hope this doesn’t hurt your feelings, but I’m not really asking. I just thought you’d want to know. To hear it from me.”
That kinda landed different, but it didn’t hurt me. Merritt and me agreed to end things.
Then, when I got past the surprise, it dawned on me that they should’ve been dating long ago. They are a lot better pair than me and Merritt ever were and ever would have been.
And no other guy we know would fit with her as well.
“I think you two are perfect together,” I said. “I guess all I want to know is why it took so long for you to work it out.”
Hannah said she’d never thought of him that way on account of him and me being together and her thinking he liked Olivia. She went on to tell me a lot about them deciding. It sounded exactly like how I’d imagine her and Merritt deciding to date.
“Did you kiss him?” I asked.
She closed her eyes. “No! I’m still adjusting how I think of him.”
I smiled. “Just kiss him and break the ice. Trust me.”
She laughed. “I’ll think about that.”
Well, that’s my story for today. Thanks for reading it.

Chapter 63: WORKING LUNCH by Will Robertson
I am, more or less, laughing at myself. Over the course of a week, I make decisions that have the potential to impact budgets with seven—sometimes eight—digits. I review drawings that literally include details that are of life-or-death importance. I’m pretty good at running through decision-making processes.
But I can’t decide which shirt to wear to have lunch with Meredith.
She wants to talk about her book. I want to hear how the first chapter is coming along. And we both want to have a nice, slow afternoon together.
But before that can happen, I need to decide how to dress.
Honestly, I’m about to just flip a coin. I don’t know what else to do. I don’t know the criteria for things like this—what does a guy like me wear when the purpose of an appointment is simply to spend an afternoon with someone?
Now, before your thoughts run ahead, let me say something.
I’ve seen how some of you have read into things with the kids in the Pay It Forward Society. Meredith and I are not in our twenties, so things with us will be different.
So far, we’ve agreed that it’s good to spend some time with another person who lived a fair amount before computers were commonplace and cellular phones had been invented.
And that is a huge step for us both. Let us enjoy where we are. We like it.
Be your best you!

Thank-You Message to Paying Supporters:
Thank you for helping support AGI Stories. At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet costs), expenses run just over $100 per month—so every supporter truly makes a difference.
As you know, I share a lot of content free to all, and I believe you understand why. Stories about giving back and helping shouldn’t be exclusive, and key moments need to be accessible for anyone following the stories.
With that in mind, I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.
My hope is that reserving a few photos and small portions of posts for you serves as a simple expression of gratitude.
I believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the production process and show encouragement. I’m honored and truly grateful.
Again, thank you very much.
