WEEKEND AWAITS by Cindi Curtis Allen

Though a full day of work awaits, Friday mornings always feel like the end of the week to me. There is something satisfying about looking at what’s been done, knocking off the last of the week’s must-dos, and laying out a plan for the week to come.

I’ll be shifting to a new project next week. Nothing world-changing (hold that thought)—just coding a new query routine for a particular window in a customized screen for a POS system my company created for a client.

Back to the world-changing idea…

This project I’ll take on will go unnoticed by nearly everyone in the world. But the dozen people who use it daily will notice. And their lives will be microscopically better—numerous times each day.

Here’s my thesis for today. If everyone seeing this did something that made the lives of a few others microscopically better each day, it would be a step toward making the world better.

Math time… Typically, about 500 people see my posts. Suppose each person made 5 people smile—hold a door, say thank you, pass on a compliment, congratulate someone, encourage someone—that would touch people equal to the population of five small towns in the USA.

Google: “Approximately 42% of the roughly 19,500 incorporated places have fewer than 500 people.”

If you do nothing other than smile as you go through your day, you’re making things better for people around you. I’ve said before that seeing someone else smile releases relaxation chemicals in the brain. And smiles are free, so share!

What if… 500 of you make the worlds of 5 people better and they in turn make 5 more? 12,500 people are impacted. And if it keeps spreading fivefold? After only eight layers of spreading, the whole world would be affected.

Consider it a spread-nice pyramid scheme!

I should get back to my thesis: If everyone seeing this did something that made the lives of a few others microscopically better each day, it would be a step toward making the world better.
