Chapter 83: HEART ISSUES by Chloe Hastings
Caleb thinks I should make a post. He claims that my silence of late could be misconstrued with regard to matters of my heart.
No, he hasn’t changed majors—not to cardiology, sociology, or psychology. He’s just meddling in the way a good brother does.
In light of my past declarations that Merritt Gray was a nice guy and the kind I could find myself interested in, Caleb thinks I need to respond in some way to the fact that he and Hannah Madison have decided to date. My reaction is that she’s pretty lucky. And from what I can tell, he is, too.
As far as my feelings for Merritt go, I’d say that not much has changed. As far as my thinking goes, I’ve removed him from the candidate to date list. He’s still nice. He never gave me reason to think anything else. And likewise, no reason to think anything more.
So, my heart is fine. I’m not broken up.
Changing the subject, let me address something else: my brother. You don’t need any of that magic twin metaphysical insight to see that he’s on his way to something meaningful with Liza. And I think they’re a good fit for each other.
I’ve spent some time with her when visiting at Crossroads, and if she lacks anything, it’s believing in herself. She’s smart, cute, considerate, and she shares a lot of Caleb’s interests.
Not that he needs my approval, but he’s got it! And she does, too. I think they’ll be dating for a long time before they put a label on it. And that? I think it suits them both just fine.

Chapter 84: TO DEFY GRAVITY by Will Robertson
I was waiting on a phone call from Tom Jenkins about moving forward with an idea for his new Crossroads property, and I let my mind drift.
He’s decided he wants to put a deli-café in on one side and a small market on the other. He hopes it’s not too late to add that to the build, and I’m going to tell him it’s not.
My wandering thoughts had absolutely nothing to do with that, and I got caught by one of the other senior partners. Terrence Davis came up while I was standing outside my office.
“Morning, Will. What’s put that vexed expression on your face?”
I laughed and waved my iPad at him. “I’m arguing with Isaac Newton about gravity.”
“Is that so? Who’s winning?”
“I’m afraid he is. I still want a plausible way to have negative gravity force.”
“Right… Meredith’s cloud cities?”
I nodded. “She doesn’t want fantasy physics. Magnetism feels like a huge exaggeration. Negative gravity…”
“You can’t change the value of G…”
“The distance from the planet to the sky city is positive and squared, so that’s not helpful.”
“Leaving?” Terrence asked, though we both knew he knew the answer.
“Negative mass—for the city, the people, and everything in it.”
“So, until something comes along to contradict Newton, there’s no negative gravity.”
I nodded. “She’s pretty much agreed already, but I’m waiting on a call so I thought I’d look up speculative ideas. Nothing feels right.”
“You got a backup plan?”
“Yeah, we’re thinking of giant platforms atop a central column.”
Terrence nodded. “Like a water tower. I read a zombie apocalypse short story where the heroes converted a water tower into a fort.”
I nodded. “Yeah, like that… bigger, though. But I’m sure this isn’t why you came to see me.”
Terrence looked around as if he needed a clue. “It wasn’t important, and now I’ve forgotten. I’ll remember before I get back to the elevator… Speaking of which—you’ll need some of those for your cloud city.”
I nodded. “Yeah, we will. You want to grab lunch later?”
“Let’s do it. See you then.”

Message to Paying Supporters:
Thank you for helping support AGI Stories.
I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.
I believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the production process and show encouragement. I’m honored and truly grateful.
At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet costs), expenses run just over $100 per month—so every supporter truly makes a difference.
Nevertheless, I share a lot of content free to all. I believe you understand why. Stories about giving back and helping shouldn’t be exclusive, and key moments need to be accessible for anyone following the stories.
My hope is that sharing a few exclusive photos and small portions of some posts with you serves as a simple expression of gratitude.
With that in mind, again, thank you very much.
