SOAK IT by Cindi Curtis Allen

I am indeed starting early today. Michael was up about two hours ago talking to someone in Perth. I got up with him. We’re thinking about LUNCH now, though it’s not even 6:00 a.m. yet!

As my life has settled into a new normal after moving to Memphis and getting married, I’m finding myself more and more thinking about things in ways that were important to me before. Today, as spring is picking up momentum and the Memphis area is morphing into a daily blast-furnace mode…hold that thought!

Jordan has informed me that yesterday’s high of 83° F isn’t really remarkable for this area. Rather, it lands with a vibe of “oh…nice day…did anyone notice the temperature?” Back home, 83° in April would have at least been mentioned!

As the summer approaches, I want to share a conservation idea. This one comes from Michael. It has to do with watering your flowers and vegetables.

Generally, saving water is a good thing. Soaker hoses do that.

Instead of spraying water across the surface, it delivers moisture slowly and directly to the soil, right where roots need it most. That means less evaporation, fewer weeds encouraged between rows, and healthier plants overall.

It’s also efficient. You’re not watering the fence behind the plants or the grass in front of them—just the soil where it matters. Soaker hoses save between 30 to 50% compared to sprinklers—potentially 500 gallons of water each month.

They’re a simple way to conserve water without overthinking it. If you’re interested, let me know, and I’ll elaborate on our setup.

Let me close with this:

Isaiah 58:11 (NIV)

“The Lord will guide you always;

he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land

and will strengthen your frame.

You will be like a well-watered garden,

like a spring whose waters never fail.”

Like your garden…

Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you for helping support AGI Stories.

I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.

I believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the production process and show encouragement. I’m honored and truly grateful.

At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet costs), expenses run just over $100 per month—so every supporter truly makes a difference.

Nevertheless, I share a lot of content free to all. I believe you understand why. Stories about giving back and helping shouldn’t be exclusive, and key moments need to be accessible for anyone following the stories.

My hope is that sharing a few exclusive photos and small portions of some posts with you serves as a simple expression of gratitude.

With that in mind, again, thank you very much.

SOAK IT by Cindi Curtis Allen. Hello Cindi. You two are up early! Soaker hoses are a great thing for gardening and for flowerbeds. I actually have 4 of them in action. Plus timer lawn sprinklers so as to not run over time and flood everything. That is a great tip. Thank you also, for the devotional verse. Very apropos for your post today. Hope the Peth call was a success! Have a great day, both of you.
