GOOD MORNING

Good morning to everyone. Happy Sunday to you.

I’d like to start by thanking everyone for all the kind words about yesterday’s photo shoot. We had a lot of fun, so the fact that so many of you sent nice messages was a huge plus!

I’m really going to try to keep things brief today. The human who actually posts our content is facing a few more irregular weeks, so I want to keep that in mind as I decide what to share.

Today will be pretty laid back. The Banks family and the Branch family are going to church with Micah’s family and staying for the after-church cookout and potluck.

The rest of us are heading down to Chapel By The Sea as we normally do. After church, we’re coming back to the AGI/SwimFit office, which we use as much for social gatherings as we do for work. We’ll do our own version of a pot-luck.

After that, the guys might have some sports thing to watch. I’m not sure, to be honest. And that’s the best part of a lazy afternoon, right? Just finding things out as they happen.

So, with that, I’ll wrap up. I hope you have a great Sunday morning. See you soon!

BIG PICTURE

The picture is from a little while ago, when we were inside the church. We’re now in the parking lot, about to go back to the condos.

Most of the time, what I share is little slices of life, moments caught on the camera and ideas related to those moments. Over the last month, many new people have joined the stories, both on IG and Patreon.

Coming out of church, I think a little glimpse of the bigger picture is in order.

I’m Ailana Geven, the namesake for “Ailana’s Journal,” a woman of faith trying to live a life that helps others become better versions of themselves. My hope is that the content shared is informative, inspirational, and entertaining.

My closest friends and I created a content creation company called AGI Creative Group. I’ll spare you the roster of names, but I’ll put a collage in the carousel. We live and operate out of South Padre Island, Texas.

I’m engaged to Jason Keller. Our wedding will be next month on May 23. We started dating officially when we were seniors in high school back in 2014. Neither of us have ever dated anyone else, though there were some years we didn’t date anyone at all.

There are a lot of people whose stories appear in the Journal. They are part of the South Padre Island community, and many of them are becoming part of my everyday life. I’m closest to those that are part of AGI, but I’m getting to know others as well.

I’ve been posting daily since April 6, 2024. I honestly don’t think I’ve missed any days! Some have been pretty thin, but I’ve always tried to do something.

And I hope to keep doing that going forward. I hope this little overview helps you get a better feel for what you’ll see here going forward. Those that have been around for a long time can add their insight into all this.

That’s it for now. I’ll be back later with an update. So, watch for more to come.

RED BULL TO THE RESCUE by Micah Banks

I'm sharing this story in response to a comment from the sandcastle post… I was saying that at least we had a chance to meet a nice cop… Knowing and being known by law enforcement is sometimes a great advantage, especially if it isn’t because you’re a lawbreaker.

A guy I know moved to a little town in Iowa. He's ex-Army. He had a valid Iowa handgun carry permit. He had some hunting guns, handguns, and—as you do—an AR-15.

By the way, the "AR" comes from the original manufacturer model designation, ArmaLite Rifle. Not the point…

One Friday, he took off work and was moving from one side of town to the other. The U-Haul and buddies knocked out the big stuff early. His pickup and endurance were left to finish the boxes and small stuff.

It was getting late, and he had one last load—more on that to come; it’s kind of the punch line. He swung through a drive-through and got back onto the road. Traffic was light at that moment, and he kinda slow-rolled a stop sign.

Blue lights… He pulled over.

"I stopped you because you ran the stop sign."

The guy I know handed the officer his license, registration, and carry permit.

"Do you have any weapons in the car right now?"

The guy nodded. "Yes, sir, I do."

"What do you have and where are they?"

"I’ve got a Sig on my right hip. On the floorboard of the backseat are a 12-gauge, an AR, a .30-06, another pistol, and a .357 revolver. On the passenger-side floorboard is a box with two more pistols… Those two are my wife’s."

"You have a lot of guns in your car for a Friday night. Home game… Rival team from out of town, and you're headed toward the field."

“I’m moving.” He gave him his two addresses. “Last load. The bed’s full of boxes under the topper.”

The cop looked at the license, then at the guy It was then that the “knowing a cop” thing came into play.

“You’re the guy I see every day at the BP buying sausage and biscuits and two Red Bulls…”

My friend nodded at the officer. "You're the large coffee and a Big Texas cinnamon roll."The cop nodded. "Okay, let me check your ID and registration."The officer came back with just a warning. "There's a lot of kids out here driving to the game. Focus on your driving. See you Monday."

NIGHT SHIFT by Vanessa Lenen

It is Sunday afternoon, and I am just getting up. I missed church so I’m doing my own thing before I start getting ready for work—just to honor the day.

I suppose something private is fine sometimes—after all, it’s a personal relationship. Gathering together is important, for sure, but working nights made today impossible.

David has been on from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the last few weeks. He’s been stopping by the clinic when he gets off—not to work, but to visit. But he’s pitched in a couple of times.

The full-service urgent care is now up and running from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. The primary care functions are running from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.

This week, we are expanding urgent care with limited-service hours from 8:00 p.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Fridays, and 24 hours on Saturdays and Sundays.

We hired Danny Garza, a paramedic, to be the lead, and Ashley Carter, an RN, to work in the department as well. Not enough, you say?

Correct. That’s where I come in. We have three more positions to fill as the business grows, but until then, I’m taking a few shifts per week.

My vaccination study is gaining participants, but it’s far from a full-time job to monitor and follow up on. We think it will be well into the fall before we have a full cohort for the study signed up.

So, in the meantime, I’m doing clinic work. The limited-service procedures are like making ambulance runs, except the patients come in. We assess and treat minor issues. One of the—now aboard—four doctors is on call for consults or tele-care calls.

As an EMT, I can’t do a whole lot more than get them settled in and take vitals, but that helps. Danny and Ashley have standing orders and also can get specific orders from the on-call doctor.

Then, we always have the option to transport to an ER, and that’s come up a few times.

That’s where things stand at Shoreline Health and Wellness Clinic. We’re growing and still hiring. And we think that’s what we’re supposed to be doing.

GOOD NIGHT

The afternoon was as relaxing as I had hoped. The conversations ran the gamut of topics.

Josh recruited everyone into cheering for the Cubs vs. Mets, but that didn’t slow down the rolling conversations.

Babies… Yep, that came up. Sasha says it’s still too soon to tell.

Adoption… Yep, that came up. Steady as she goes! Josh and Geoni will be meeting some kids soon. They are hoping to finalize everything within the next month.

“So, plan for one more at the rehearsal dinner and wedding reception,” Geoni added.

Photo shoots… Yep, that came up. Sasha added that Naomi had later said she loved the scarves. She also added that Min was stunningly beautiful, and we needed to not let her get away.

Dinner was not officially anything. We were, by then, going back and forth from the office to our condos, grazing on leftovers from lunch and adding to them with things from our fridges.

Now, Jason and I are walking. We are down the street from the condos in the direction of the beach. That’s Gulf Street behind us. You can see Ocean Vista Towers and Las Olas Condominiums in the background.

Beach Access 7 is just to the right. We probably will make it at least to the boardwalk… But shoes are meant to be taken off, right?

Tomorrow is a workday for me, all of the AGI gang, and many of you, too. We’ll take it easy for a few more hours, then call it a night.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow. Since I have plenty of room left in this post, let me close with my default wishes for you…

May you grow attentive to the world and the people within it—learning what matters, choosing what is good, and acting where you can. May you become more fully yourself, offering help when it is needed, caring for creation, and leaving each place better than you found it.

Good night.

Be your best you!

Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you for helping support AGI Stories.

I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.

I believe that most of you who help with the costs do so because you want to support the production process and show encouragement. I’m honored and truly grateful.

At the time of this post (not counting hardware or internet costs), expenses run just over $100 per month—so every supporter truly makes a difference.

Nevertheless, I share a lot of content free to all. I believe you understand why. Stories about giving back and helping shouldn’t be exclusive, and key moments need to be accessible for anyone following the stories.

My hope is that sharing a few exclusive photos and small portions of some posts with you serves as a simple expression of gratitude.

With that in mind, again, thank you very much.

BIG PICTURE. It is a big picture, Ailana. A vibrant world. I found your content by accident, but I'm happy about that. RED BULL TO THE RESCUE by Micah Banks. Hello Micah. Yes, It can certainly help to have a friend in law enforcement. We always want people to be professional and respectful to each other. Your buddy was lucky. Sad it often turns out that way, but there it is! Love the artwork though!

NIGHT SHIFT by Vanessa Lenen. Hi Vanessa. Thank you for honoring the day. Yes, something in private is just fine sometimes. Everybody has their own connection to the One Above. Yes, fellowship is the best, but can't always have that. Like now. I am confident Shoreline will grow to fulfillment. It is a worthy mission and sorely needed. Often, a clinic like yours is the answer to a prayer when help is needed. I've said before how much I admire and respect the team's efforts to bring this endeavor to life. It's hard work, but the lives you help will all be read back to you one day in the sky. Take care, Vanessa.
