GOOD MORNING

Mara and I are packing it up in the morning and making our way to Miami. We’re supposed to check into the InterContinental Miami for one night, leave a paper trail, then head back to independent hotels for a few nights.

Our stay here in the cabin has gone well. Most of the time, we just shake our heads about this being our jobs.

To be fully honest, the actual pay is fairly minimal. We both just send it directly to a savings account. Living on an expense account with the duty to pretend to be dating is basically a dream job. Especially since the “pretend” is only in the job description.

Dating Mara has been amazing. We talked today about how we’d feel if we both had jobs in retail and were only able to spend time with each other when we were both off.

“I think,” Mara said, “it would just make our time together more intense. I’d want to get the most out of whatever hours we had.”

As it is, our days have been slow and steady. There’s no urgency to spend every minute together. There are long periods of just getting things done.

Meals…

Today was about laundry and packing…

Tomorrow, there will be hours on the road…

But I’ll close by saying this: I go to bed each night with a prayer of thanks that this is happening.

We rode out of Manhattan on February 15. This has been the best two months of my life, and I have no doubt that the future with Mara will just keep getting better.
