Chapter 108: PIZZA OR BURGERS? by Merritt Gray

Paul Charm recently checked in and has urged us all to take turns letting everyone know how things are. Guess who got picked to go first?

I’m sitting here trying to think of how to sum up my situation, and I keep going back to an expression I hear younger people saying—not that I’m old at 26, but every generation makes language their own.

When someone says something or something happens that is worth celebrating, you might hear an enthusiastic affirmation…

Let’s go!

For example, after a couple of young guys did the NY Times Connections puzzle, I heard this: “Bro! Purple first and no misses! Let’s go!”

“Let’s go!” is pretty much where I am with my life, right now. I have a great job and am dating a great girl!

Working on Crossroads Apartments Phase II has been amazing and very rewarding. Work is on schedule, with the second-floor micro units open and mostly occupied. I’ll let someone else talk about that.

Dating Hannah feels like the proverbial hand in glove. We get along great, with challenges no more significant than picking a place for date night.

“How about pizza?”

“Not really in the mood… Burgers?”

“I was thinking of something more interesting…”

The closest thing to an argument was a semantic debate around the question of whether Chicago deep dish is actually pizza.

Claim one: Pizza is in its name! Semantically it must be.

Claim two: Pizza is supposed to be picked up with your hands, possibly folded, and eaten without needing a fork.

Followup debate—Is American pizza and Italian food.

Let me close this recap.

I could stay happy with my NYC SysCo job and with Hannah for the rest of my life. God has blessed me with a double portion.
