Chapter 110: AFTER WEDDING MORNING by Izzy Duffy

Kent and I are at the Denny’s in South Padre Island. We came down for Ailana Geven—now Ailana Geven Keller—and Jason Keller’s wedding, and we worked it out to be here for a couple of nights.

Paul Charm has asked everyone from Crossroads to check in and update everyone on what’s going on. Kent and I want to do that now.

My job is much like it has been since I started working at Habitat Housing. I love what I do, and the new woman who took Shay’s position—Melissa Gaines—is great to work with. I guess we’re well into a workplace friendship by now.

We’re working with Tom Jenkins on the Stop-Gap units that will be on the third floor of the Crossroads Phase II building. Tom is making it easy, and the program is really going to benefit from the new apartments.

Kent says he’s working one-and-a-half jobs now. His electrical contract business is steady and profitable. His other job is to be the on-site coordinator for the Habitat Housing work that Shay used to do.

He meets volunteers and contractors and makes sure they have the tools and supplies they need to help the homeowners who need a hand keeping their properties livable.

He wanted me to remind everyone that he’s done that work as a volunteer for a long time. Now, he’s doing it more often, but he’s getting paid for it.

The big unknown is not where our relationship is going—it’s when it’s going to get there. We are pretty confident.

“A French fry engagement ring wasn’t the end of this,” Kent said. “We need to take some time and make a plan.”

After seeing Ailana and Jason, we might take that time sooner rather than later.

Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you for helping support AGI Stories.

I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.

I cannot say how much your support helps. Each of your contributions adds up and helps defray the cost of producing content. As of now, between donations here and Instagram monetization, most of the software costs are covered. Not quite all of them, but most…

Because of your generosity, I am able to keep going.

With that in mind, again, thank you very much.
