MEMORABLE MEMORIAL DAY by Cindi Curtis Allen

I want to remember this day. Who was here, what we did, and how I felt. I grew a lot today.

By now, you’re probably tired of the before and after comments. Well, today I hosted a party. A year ago, my parents wouldn’t have believed this could happen. Today, they called like doing this is normal life.

And it’s starting to feel that way.

Chef Michael told me not to worry. He says that a lot when he knows I’m going to worry.

Jordan and Carter arrived first. In her way, her humor actually helped me relax.

“Carter and I have bets on how many panic attacks you have today. Let me know every time you have one!”

Carter rolled his eyes and shook his head. “We do NOT have bets! She’s joking.”

“I know that. But I’ll let you know all the same.”

So far, none have stopped the party!

Roman and Hayes arrived about fifteen minutes after Carter and Jordan. Roman dove right in with talking about the code I was working up for him. Finally, Hayes reined him in.

“Roman, save it for tomorrow. I know you love what she’s done, but let’s not work today.”

Roman agreed.

Today’s weather is crazier than I am! We caught a few gaps to take some pictures, but it’s been cloudy or partly cloudy all day. It’s supposed to rain again tonight.

Jordan and Carter grew up in the area, and Jordan said this: “If you don’t like Memphis’s weather, wait. It will change.”

We had mid-80s and bluebird skies earlier this week. Rain. Clouds. I don’t even know, but the garden loves the sunshine and rain, so… okay.

For those outside the U.S., Memorial Day honors the service members who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. It’s also the unofficial start of summer, though astronomical summer won’t begin until the June solstice, nearly four weeks from now.
