Chapter 111: BACK TO BROOKLYN by Kent Marlon

Sometimes, you have to hit the pause button and ask yourself what you want. This trip to Texas let me do that.

Right now, we’re at Mahi Nic, a place near where the wedding reception was. We had to check it out before we go back home in the morning.

Izzy and I have been friends for a while, and I’m going to say we started dating in October. We’ve now been on two beach vacations with her friend, Ailana. This one included a wedding.

Here’s where my thinking has taken me.

Brooklyn is fine. I have a nice little business going. I sold my parents’ house and have some money in the bank. I actually love working the second job with Habitat Housing. I’m not sure about the Pay It Forward Society, but that’s a different story—rent paid, I’m beyond grateful.

Izzy loves her job, too, and it is also in Brooklyn. So, as much as the life here in Texas seems appealing, for now, we think our future is back in New York.

I was born in 1998 in the Bronx to working-class parents. Dad was a subway mechanic with the MTA, and Mom was a nurse’s aide. We got by and I learned the value of hard work.

Izzy’s family was working-class, too. She grew up in Blue Island, Illinois, on Chicago’s South Side. Her mom was a postal worker, and her dad was an elevator repair tech.

So, I guess you can say we share a similar past.

What there’s no guessing about is this: after talking a lot this weekend, we want to share an identical future.

We’re going to talk to the pastor at the church about something he calls premarital counseling when we get back. We think we know how that will go, and if we’re right, there will be some jewelry action after that.

Paul and Rebecca have a wedding scheduled on June 27, so we’re not trying to compete with that. Let them have the spotlight.

P.S. No one knows their plan other than the date.

That’s it for me and Izzy. We think we know. We’re about to find out.

Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you for helping support AGI Stories.

I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.

I cannot say how much your support helps. Each of your contributions adds up and helps defray the cost of producing content. As of now, between donations here and Instagram monetization, most of the software costs are covered. Not quite all of them, but most…

Because of your generosity, I am able to keep going.

With that in mind, again, thank you very much.
