Chapter 117: BACK IN THE BIG APPLE by Izzy Duffy

A week ago, Kent and I were in South Padre Island, Texas, at Ailana and Jason’s wedding. It was a great visit, and getting to know Ailana’s friends better made it extra special.

On the way back, Kent mentioned how much we liked our time there, then said that Brooklyn was fine. And it is. There are some good things going on here that we both feel are important.

But everyone knows that a big city like New York isn’t without its downsides.

Yesterday, Kent and I had a literal life-changing moment. There are a lot of angles to this, so hang on.

We were walking from the market back to Crossroads when we saw a mom and her two children at a crosswalk. The light changed, giving them the all-clear to cross. They were two steps into the street when a sports car whipped around the corner with its horn blaring.

The mom pulled back one of the kids. The other one ran the rest of the way across the street.

The driver had made a left on red. Also known as running the light.

No one was hurt. Slight kudos to the driver for knowing where the brake pedal was.

Kent and I stood there frozen, grateful we had been spared from witnessing a tragedy.

Now, here’s the life-changing moment.

Kent pulled me close and said, “I don’t want to raise our kids here. This place isn’t meant for kids.”

I answered without a pause. “I know. I’d hate for our kids to grow up here.”

Assumptions? Yes.

Promises? Also yes.

Dreams on the horizon? I’m going with yes.

We’re a ways off from marriage. We’re even further from kids. But in a moment when we weren’t guarding our words, the truth came out.

We’re both thinking about a long life together.

And I am definitely not mad about that!

Message to Paying Supporters:

Thank you for helping support AGI Stories.

I always consider you—the paid members—when deciding how content is shared.

I cannot say how much your support helps. Each of your contributions adds up and helps defray the cost of producing content. As of now, between donations here and Instagram monetization, most of the software costs are covered. Not quite all of them, but most…

Because of your generosity, I am able to keep going.

With that in mind, again, thank you very much.
