GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller
Well now, here we are in Memphis. Me, Noah, Merritt, Hannah, Paul, and Rebecca all landed a little while ago. We got a rental SUV, but Paul and Rebecca took it—I’ll say why in a second.
Jordan, the girl I talked about before, and her boyfriend, Carter, met us at the car rental. Merritt, of course, introduced us all to Jordan. Then she introduced us to Carter.
Well, we didn’t really eat on the plane, just to keep things simple, so Merritt suggested we get barbecue, on account of Memphis being famous for it.
Carter said, “Well, Central barbecue isn’t far from here. One of my favorites. What do you think?”
Paul and Rebecca decided to check out The Rendezvous—it’s very famous, and a little more fancy.
The rest of us piled into Carter’s Ford Explorer and headed to Central BBQ in Midtown. It’s called Central ‘cause their first location was here on Central Avenue.
After we eat, we’re going to the hotel to check in. Shay booked us at the Hilton Memphis, which Carter says is “out east.” It’s pretty centrally located in the county and in the direction of the places Noah and me found on Zillow.
I asked Jordan where Cindi and Michael were—Merritt knows Michael, too.
“Cindi prefers to avoid busy crowds,” Jordan explained. “We’ll catch up with them tomorrow.”
Well, that’s about it. We’re here, thanks to Shay. And we got some houses and apartments to look at, but Carter already told us the apartments in our price range are either studio size or not in the area we said we liked.
So, we’ll see how it goes.
Given where Memphis is, we think if we can find a place with a roof that don’t leak, a heater that works in the winter, and an air conditioner that works in the summer, we can make it work out fine.
Thanks for reading my story. That’s all for now.

Chapter 142: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED by Hannah Madison
My job on this project was to keep Merritt company and create the clear understanding that he is not making some backdoor scheme to see the girl who had a crush on him. Merritt’s job was to introduce Emma and Noah to Jordan and her boyfriend, Carter.
I think we can both say our mission has been accomplished. Now, we hang out and try to help Emma and Noah decide what to rent.
Merritt and I got checked into our rooms—we did talk Shay into having Emma and me share one and Merritt and Carter share one, but of course Paul and Rebecca each have their own rooms. Still, four rooms, not six.
Now, we’re sitting in the lobby passing time before dinner.
“Nice hotel,” Merritt said. “It feels comfortable and fancy at the same time.”
I agreed, then looked over at Merritt. “Do you think I could get some Ruffles?”
The smile on his face was priceless.
He looked at me and said, “Only if I can, too.”
I took a deep breath and started to change the subject. Merritt wasn’t quite ready.
“Hannah, the more I think about it, the more I think Emma is right. We like what we have and we don’t need to try anything else. I’m thinking you’re my Ruffles and we’ll just let time do its thing until…”
I wanted to make him finish the thought, but I was sure what he was going to say.
Instead, I vaguely let him know that I agreed. “Works for me…”
He smiled. “Okay, so… now I actually want some chips. Think they have some in the lobby store?”
He was already getting up, and I had just taken my sandals off. “Grab me a soda, please?”
“Sure… Coke? Pepsi?”
“Whichever… Both are great with Ruffles…”
