Chapter 146: DIET FORTHCOMING by Hannah Madison
Merritt and I went to church with Michael and Cindi, and afterward…lunch. When we get home, I’m going to have to watch my intake for a while!
Michael looked at us as we walked to the car and said, “How about burgers again for lunch? Cindi’s buying.”
Cindi smiled, blushed a little and nodded. “Only if we go to Huey’s.”
Michael smiled. “That is exactly what I was thinking.”
So here we are at Huey’s Cordova, waiting for what Cindi says is the best burger in the entire Memphis metro area. She does not seem to be the kind of person who would say that unless this really is her favorite.
While Merritt and I are here, Paul and Rebecca are going to Graceland. Paul insists everyone should go there once in their life, and this weekend is finally his chance. Rebecca is playing along.
Emma and Noah are with Jordan and Carter. They are meeting a landlord to sign a lease on a house they found—actually not far from here in an area called Eads. It’s right off US-64, and Jordan took Cindi out there to look at the house.
“It’s off a little road,” Cindi said, “and you can’t see it until you get up the driveway a little. It’s an old farmhouse on about two acres, but it was restored about twenty years ago and has a new roof and a new HVAC system.”
Merritt said that meets most of Noah’s requirements. “Dry and cool or warm as needed…”
The plan is that we’ll fly home to Brooklyn tomorrow in the late afternoon. Merritt and I took Monday off, meaning we’ll have a lot of catch-up work to do on Tuesday.
Michael and Cindi have given us a standing invitation to come back anytime and visit all four of them.
“This will,” Michael said, “give us a reason to furnish one of our other bedrooms. You can stay with us.”
Cindi was smiling and nodding, so… we’ll see. I’m sure I’ll be staying in touch, though. Nice people are a treasure worth keeping.

Chapter 147: HOUSE FOUND by Emma Knox
Noah and me have a home! I’m not exactly sure where it is. It’s south of Arlington. It’s west of Oakland. North of Fisherville. Call it Eads.
On the map, it’s real close to where I-269 crosses US-64. As the crow flies, we’re about twenty miles from downtown Memphis and the Mississippi River.
It’s clean. The roof is only three years old. The HVAC is only four years old. It’s not fancy or big, but it’s more than enough.
The front porch opens into a living room at the front left. Behind it is the dining room. The kitchen connects to both. Two bedrooms and the bathroom are on the right.
It’s going to be ours to live in starting today!
The man renting it to us doesn’t own a bunch of properties. His parents gave him the house when they moved into senior living. He offered a rent to own plan, and we’ll probably switch over to that once we’re married and residents of the state.
He said, “You’ll rent it for two years, but I’ll lock in the price today. Nine hundred a month, and a hundred fifty of that goes toward buying it as long as you pay on time. I’ll keep the taxes and insurance handled until you close. You take care of the place, build some work history, and buy it when the bank is ready for you.”
We also agreed to maintain the yard and outside of the house.
Well, there are always surprises and blessings you can hardly believe.
Hannah and Merritt are paying our first month’s rent as a wedding present, and Tom Jenkins is paying the security deposit, utility hook-up fees, internet hook-up fees, and the first month's utility and internet fees as a present. By that I mean now until the end of July, so our first payments will be August.
Now, one last thing… Carter and Jordan like how peaceful it feels here, so they want to host a cookout for everyone from work on the 27th, after Roman and Hayes—who I haven’t met—get back from their honeymoon.
