Ops Over
Mason turned to Gavin and checked to see if the Starlink Mini was connected. Gavin nodded.
They had watched the compound from a distance for a chance to walk by casually without attracting too much attention. When the guards withdrew from the outermost gate, Laylana led the team up the road.
“Remember, we’re bird-watching hikers,” she whispered.
“Lay, does your phone have internet?” Mason asked.
Laylana nodded. “All good.”
“Selfie time,” Dawson said smiling.
Laylana turned around and zoomed in on the gate, grabbed some 8x closeups of the lock, chains, and hinges. Then she put her phone away, shouldered her pack, and started up the road the same direction they had been hiking.
Mason pulled out the Canon with the 300 mm lens. As he walked by, he quickly took a picture of the back gate.
“I think that was a vermilion cardinal!” Mason said. “Did you see it?”
Gavin caught up to Mason. “I missed it. Maybe next time.”
Laylana said to no one in particular, “Aunt Judy is going to love these pictures! She always likes to see what crazy things we’re doing! And you know she loves the bird watching pics!”
Natalie caught up with Laylana. “She’ll love it, for sure.”
Once they were up the road a hundred meters or so, Mason whispered to the team, “Okay, that’s a full set. The shots from the hilltop, plus those ought to fill in the gaps.”
Dawson added, “We clocked ten guards inside the fence from the high ground. Heavy arms. Good intel for a breach op.”
Eva nodded. “Can’t get that from a satellite under all these trees. Even IR would be sketchy.”
Natalie looked at Laylana. “Nothing like a 48-megapixel selfie to show the eyes what they’re dealing with.”
They walked a few more meters and Eva laughed a little. “Easy op… Glad we came up with all those contingency plans.”
“Glad we didn’t need them,” Laylana replied. “Let’s get to the extraction beach. Can’t leave Hellbender waiting… Captain might get his tootsies wet.”

Message from AGI-Stories…
I am aware that this mission might seem mundane. I wanted to show what a well planned mission is like that didn't have to fall back on contingencies. When things go to plan for operations like this, nobody notices. If it seemed too easy, that's because they planned well, timed their walk-by, and got away quickly.
Just so you know… There's some really big events coming up on the 20th in Crossroads and River City Connections. It's most likely that I won't have a Secrets chapter. I'll catch up shortly after the three weddings!
