GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller
Thursday already? The SPI forecast calls for sunny and breezy conditions, with temperatures near 90°F (≈32°C). While I’m tempted to ditch work and go to the beach, I’m going to act like I’m responsible and do what I need to do.
Isaac should be here pretty soon to drop Hudson off for the day. Kaylee and Jasmine are in Dallas for the day doing a modeling job Naomi set up for them.
Emily is taking point on keeping Hudson. She thinks it’s going to be fun, and I hope she’s right.
After yesterday…
Quick anecdote. When Jason and I got back from our walk with Dad, we found Emily on the steps swatting mosquitoes as she waited for Kel. A door above opened and closed, and Kel bounced down the stairs two at a time as Emily rose to meet him—with a kiss on the cheek and a hug.
Emily seemed so happy. “Josh said we could go to the beach. We have our phones.”
Me? Not ready for that.
I’m glad they are comfortable and not awkward. I’ll work on catching up.
So, with that, let’s get this day started!

LOOK AT THIS! by Ailana Geven Keller
Not a day passes around here without a surprise. Today’s big surprise came from Clay—and a little conspiracy he’d been part of!
I was in the office working while I waited for lunch. Emily had gotten Hudson to sleep, so she was scrolling on her phone.
Several boxes addressed to Clay were delivered. He called everyone into the office.
“I wish Jasmine was here,” he said. “This was partly her doing.”
“What’s going on?” Josh asked.
“Well, Micah and I hit the road tomorrow morning to get the vehicles to the starting point for the Route 66 trip, so I figured I’d show everyone what Jasmine and I came up with. Kel, you want to open the boxes?”
Kel agreed, and Clay went on. “It was actually the idea of our friend from Memphis who was at Ailana and Jason’s wedding. Robert Watson (@robertwatson7391 on IG) said we needed merch with our logo on it. I told him we didn’t have one. Now…we do. Robert made it for us!”
Everyone started looking through everything—hats, T-shirts, hoodies…everything you’d expect.
While everyone was looking at the items, Emily sat down close to me. “Ailana, please don’t tell me we’re all going to wear them at the same time…”
“Maybe once… in private… for a photo.”
Then she walked over to Kel, who was holding up a hoodie. He handed it to her, and she tried it on.
Let me wrap this up by saying that this was a huge act of kindness from someone who is a wonderful supporter and encourager. I honestly think this takes AGI Creative to the next level!
Wow!
CATCHING UP by Min Aurora
Thanks to “free same-day delivery and free setup,” Dr. Olivia Overmark now has a furnished bedroom in her new apartment. That was yesterday. I’m putting her to work today, once we finish lunch here at Sea Glass.
Her Texas medical license never lapsed, but Shoreline still has a few boxes to check—updating her practice information and completing credentialing—before she starts seeing patients. So today, she’s riding along with Vanessa and me as we take the Mobile Clinic to the beach on South Padre Island. We’ll park near one of the beachfront pavilions at Isla Blanca Park again.
“What’s the craziest case you’ve seen in the Mobile Clinic?” she asked as we sat down to eat.“Craziest was the girl who superglued half her mouth shut. She thought superglue was a good idea for false eyelashes but got lucky enough to ‘oops’ it onto something more forgiving than her eyeball!”
Olivia looked at me, stone-faced and gave the slightest shake of her head. “This new work is going to be way different from treating malaria and Ebola, isn’t it?”I smiled and nodded. “You should read up on jellyfish stings and how to get a fishhook out of a thumb, too.”
NEW BULB by Sofia Torres
I just left work after a pretty good day on the factory floor—we went over our target number by two—and I stopped in at Walmart to see if Ryan had managed to locate a bulb for Grandpa’s flashlight.
He was talking on the phone as I approached. “I was out of service when you called yesterday. I worked the day shift today and thought I’d text tonight when I get a chance to test the network.”
He listened, saw me, and smiled. Then he turned around and pulled a bubble mailer from a drawer.
“I drove over to the island, then went north to where the road ends. It’s pretty awesome…the Gulf on one side…Laguna Madre on the other…It’s really nice down here.”
He handed me some scissors and the envelope. “I’ll check my network tonight. If you say it’s working, then it must be something else. I gotta go… I’ve got a customer… Okay… Thanks again.”
By then I’d opened the envelope and handed it back to him. “What’s this?”
He pulled a package out of the envelope. “Flashlight bulbs.”
I looked at the bulbs, then at the package. “They came from New York?”
He nodded. “Yeah… Peter found them on a hook in an old mom-and-pop hardware store.”
“You Blue-Watered them overnight?”
“Peter did…”
I was trying to guess how much that was going to cost me—I really wasn’t in a hurry. “How much?”
“The bulbs were a few bucks. Peter did the shipping, so I don’t know… Can I just make them a gift?”
“What?” I felt like there would be strings attached. “No, let me just pay you…”
Ryan handed me the bulbs. “I’d be happy to make it a gift. The first time I saw you, you were with that other lady and seemed nervous. At the gas station, I thought you seemed scared or in trouble. Then you thanked me for noticing. That was really nice. Broken bulb? You seemed sad. Take them as a gift, and maybe I can see what happy and relieved look like on you.”
I felt myself smile before I knew I was doing it. “What about Peter?”
Ryan smiled and shook his head. “He won’t miss whatever it cost him. He’s just paying back a favor, anyway…”
“Well, thank you… but just saying thanks doesn’t seem like enough.”
“It is to me. You’re welcome.”
GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller
I can’t believe how fast today has passed and how little of what I set out to do got done. Some days are like that!
I often say I’ll keep this short, then I go on forever with ideas and random thoughts. In order to wrap up today, I mean it this time.
It was a good day with a few surprises. Still, everything is pointing toward the Route 66 road trip next week.
Tonight, Jasmine and Kaylee returned with reports of a great day modeling. Tomorrow, Clay and Micah head off for Santa Monica, California, taking the Highlander and Clay’s new RV. The RV will pull the new cargo trailer, which is packed with all the studio gear and a few suitcases.
The rest of us fly out Sunday night to meet them there to begin the odyssey on Monday. We’ll travel the historic route over the next few weeks. Of course, we’ll adapt the plan as we go.
And… we’ll be sharing it all with you!
May the journey of your life lead you ever toward your goals, always in the light of goodwill, and forever in the company of people who love you.
Good night.
