Chapter 154: TWO DAYS AND COUNTING by Emma Knox
I thought, since the weather is nice today, I’d take a little walk.
Soon as I got out of the apartments, I ran into Merritt. He was going over to the Phase Two site to look at some work and talk to the foreman.
“Have you seen Hannah?” he asked.
“I just come out,” I said.
“She’s supposed to meet me here. I’ll text.” He waved and went on into the building.
They already finished the second floor and all of Shay’s bodyguards moved in there. They are still keeping watch, just from a distance. The third floor is going to be four two-bedroom apartments like where Hannah and me live. Then the top floor is going to be eight small apartments sort of like the dorms, but big enough for parents and two kids. Maybe three, even four, as an emergency shelter.
Hannah said they thought it would all be done by the end of the summer. That would be good, what with winter being a hard time if you live on the street.
The wedding is Saturday, and everyone—and I mean everyone, even Chloe and Caleb—is going to Memphis. We’re leaving for the airport after lunch tomorrow. Of course, Noah and Kent won’t be on the plane on account that they left in Noah’s Civic yesterday.
They plan on getting to Memphis later today. It’s around a sixteen-hour drive, but they didn’t want to go all the way without stopping.
I guess that’s about all for me to tell today. Like I said, I thought I’d just take a walk.
I don’t hate it here. But the more I think about it, the more I think a house with a porch and some grass around it will be more me.
Thanks for reading my story. See you next time.

HITTING THE ROAD by Cindi Curtis Allen
Michael and I are set for our trip to Nashville. Between the Jeep Michael had before we married and the Prius I had, we opted for the hybrid. Given gas prices and all that…
My suitcase is the last thing to load up, so I thought I’d check in. We’re not going to rush—we’re planning to stop in Jackson for dinner.
I think I’m prepared as far as the anxiety goes. Michael will drive to spare me traffic anguish. I’ll take my shoes off, buckle up, recline a little, and see how it goes.
Hayes and Roman are going up tomorrow morning for the wedding, which is on Saturday. It’s going to be elegant but small—just Michael, Jordan, Carter, me, Hayes’s family and closest family friends, plus Roman’s family coming down from Lexington, Kentucky. That’s it.
I’ll check in tomorrow after Michael gets done with his meetings and let you know how I’m doing. I think chilling out in the morning at the hotel will have me in the mindset that a dinner out and a little sightseeing won’t be a problem.
If it is, it is… That’s how it goes.
Michael has been texting Merritt, the guy from Brooklyn. You probably know that he and all his friends are coming back to Memphis this weekend for Emma and Noah’s wedding. We might try to meet them for dinner on Sunday before they fly back to New York, but we’ll just have to see how the schedule works out.
That’s all from me for now. Michael is ready to load my suitcase, so I’ll just say goodbye and share a verse.
Psalm 68:4–5—“Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him—his name is the LORD. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” (NIV)
