FRESH START by Emma Knox Vale
Well, I’m married to Noah! It’s Sunday morning, and we’re with Daddy here at the Hilton Memphis.
Everything has moved fast over the last few weeks, but we’re finally married! We have a house out in Eads, and Noah has a job as an Advanced EMT. Officially, he starts tomorrow, but his first shift is on Tuesday, so we have today and tomorrow to settle in at the new house.
Daddy was able to be here for the wedding, but he’s got to get back to the port for work this afternoon. He’s doing deckhand work on the river, and he says he likes it. It’s hard work, but he’s out of debt to Mr. Lanford who owned the tenant farm we used to live on.
So, as far as he’s concerned, things are looking pretty good. He likes his job and he’s real happy I’m married. That makes him feel like I’m safe and settled.
He likes Noah, too. That’s a good thing, for sure.
Well, now that I’m living in the Memphis area, I can work out a way to see him every now and then when his barge ties up here to load or unload. It won’t be too often, but anything is better than nothing.
I have a lot to say about the wedding and how everyone made it happen, plus all the gifts we got. I’ll start talking about that sort of thing tomorrow.
For now, this is it for me. Thanks for reading my story. See you soon!

HEADING HOME by Cindi Curtis Allen
Yesterday’s wedding was wonderful. Yesterday’s wedding was wonderful. Today, Jordan, Carter, Michael, and I saw Hayes and Roman off at the airport before having an early lunch and heading toward Memphis ourselves.
You might agree with Michael on this: if you have an early lunch, you get to have an early dinner, then you can have dessert later.
Since we took separate cars to Nashville, Carter and Jordan are following us as we make our way down I-40 toward home. We did switch things up for about an hour—I rode with Jordan, and Carter rode with Michael.
We all stopped in Jackson at the Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum. We’ll eat at Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store, which is right here, too.
We haven’t even gone into the restaurant yet, but Michael is already talking about us hitting a Baskin-Robbins when we get closer to home.
“We can stop at the one near Stage and Germantown,” he said.
Carter and Jordan are okay with that plan. So am I!
We can always watch what we eat next week.
So, to wrap up, let me say…
…The wedding was great.
…Hayes and Roman are on their way to Bora Bora.
…The rest of us are on our way home.
