SITTING TOGETHER by Emma Vale

Hey, y’all. Me and Noah called Cindi and Michael this morning to see if maybe we could sit with them at church, and of course they said yes. It was really nice, too. I’m still getting used to church here, and having people you know sitting beside you makes a big difference.

After church, Cindi invited us over for sandwiches and salad. Roman and Hayes are coming too. Cindi said she needed to talk with Roman for a few minutes about some work she does for him, but besides that it’s just supposed to be social. Roman and Hayes have to go to Perth on Monday, so I guess it’s one of those chances to visit before they scatter off again.

That kind of life is still wild to me. Hayes can pretty much work from anywhere. Like, she could be alone in a room somewhere with internet and still get all her work done and never even have to see anybody if she didn’t want to. I think that would make me feel lonely after about five minutes.

I’ve been thinking about that some, because tomorrow I start my job at Southwest Tennessee Community College, and I’ve got a full week of classes too. It feels like everything is starting all at once. Me and Noah are using this weekend to get ready, because next week we’re both going to be busy.

And I think maybe that’s part of why I’m excited about learning to be a social worker. I don’t think I’m meant for a life where I just sit by myself somewhere and do everything through a screen. I like people. I like being around people. I like trying to understand what’s going on with them and how they’re feeling and maybe helping a little if I can.

Hannah said some really sweet things about missing me, and that got me in my feelings a little bit. I miss her too. I miss all of them. But I also know this is my next step, and I’m thankful for it.

Anyway, that’s my little check-in for today. We’re fixing to go spend some time with everybody before the new week gets here.

Thanks for reading my story.

Hi Emma it's good to go somewhere with people who know very well, in your case going to church with Cindy and Michael. It's natural you miss Hannah but you've got to move forward. Of course, you and her will meet again surely. Hoping things on your new routine: work and study, are amazing for you. Have a nice day.
