Elise Tanaka was no stranger to airports or layovers. Converting notes into reports at the gate was common practice.

Sometimes, it was easy. She’d arrive early for her flight and have the gate area mostly to herself.

Chicago’s O’Hare often didn’t afford that luxury.

She was on her way home to Irving, Texas, near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The gate was crowded and noisy.

The mother traveling alone with two small children seemed oblivious, not only to how loud the child’s iPad was, but also to the fact that it had “Baby Shark” on repeat.

Elise gave up finishing her report. She packed up her laptop and checked how long she had until departure.

Forty-five minutes.

She decided it was time to get ready for her flight. And she wouldn’t mind a little quiet time, either.
