LUNCH AND LAUGHS by Cindi Curtis Allen
I had a strange opportunity to take a long lunch today. There’s some remodeling going on at the Colorado office, so my boss said to take a couple of hours while all the servers got moved and rebooted.
Michael wanted to come downtown to visit some clients who go back to the beginning of his company, even before it was named ClearStream. We decided to have lunch at The Arcade too.
We had just sat down when Jordan started texting. Then she called.
It was about the pool party.
“You need to post one of the pictures to prove you were there,” she said.
It was obvious right away that she was not going to back down, change her mind, or give up until I agreed. She sent me a bunch of cute pictures from yesterday at the pool.
“This would be a change for me,” I said to Michael.
“You don’t have to do it,” he said. “She’s just being Jordan. And she won’t be mad if you don’t feel comfortable.”
“That’s not it at all,” I said. “I’m not uncomfortable. It’s just different. I see myself more as the girl on the mountain trail than I do the girl at the pool.”
Michael did that thing where he lets my words stop echoing in my ears.
Then he said, “You can be both. Or neither. Or something totally different that we haven’t thought of yet. So long as it feels like you’re being you.”
“Both?” I thought about that for a second.
Then I picked one to add to this post.
