Chapter 3.1.51: THIS MEANS TROUBLE by Meredith Sinclair
Flying down, I thought about calculating the probability that Will and I would travel to South Padre Island, Texas, at the same time for entirely different reasons.I came up with several variables before realizing I was really just looking for a way to explain a long weekend in the same place as Will to my daughter.
To be fully honest, I didn’t need to come. My reason for coming is to meet with Ailana Geven again, even though I just met with her on Tuesday. She suggested that I have some promotional photography done, and talking more about Cloudfall couldn’t hurt.
Will was invited down to meet with Nick Fashola and Paul Charm because he has become something of an advisor to the Pay It Forward Society. Nick is in charge of the program, and Paul has been handling the logistics.
The very unlikely reality is that Alderwick Private Management, LLC—the company backing Pay It Forward Society—has just established a South Padre Island base for its humanitarian work.
The very likely reality is that my daughter, Caroline, will insist that this trip with Will confirms her claim that he and I are far beyond being just friends. I’m not claiming that we’re still just friends, but she will read this as meaning much more than it does.
Alderwick owns four condos in a building called The Sapphire. Nick lives in one. Evelyn Chandler, a technology expert, lives in ona. A third is reserved for visiting staff, and Paul and Rebecca Charm are staying there. The fourth is a flexible-use unit for visiting advisors, team meetings, group work and similar needs. Will and another advisor—Tom Jenkins—are staying there.
I am booked at a nearby hotel. There is a free shuttle system called Island Metro, so I should be able to get around without much trouble.
I’ll be meeting with Ailana tomorrow. Tonight, Will and I are having dinner at The Kraken, a place Paul Charm recommended.
I’m sure Caroline will push back when I point out that Will and I have completely different reasons for being here. I suppose I’ll just have to live with that.
She means well.
