A LITTLE EXTRA by Emma Vale

Hey, everybody. I’ve got a few minutes to check in before class. After that, I come back here and work the rest of my shift.

A few people have suggested Noah and me ought to put a swimming pool in at our place out in Eads. That sounds real nice when it’s close to 100 degrees outside, but we’re still in the rent part of our rent-to-own agreement. It isn’t fully our house yet, and a pool would be way more money than we could afford. A little plastic one from Walmart is closer to our budget!

We did get a surprise from the barn, though.

In one of the unused horse stalls, we found an old 1940s Royal Crown Cola metal advertising sign. Somebody had wrapped it in plastic years later and leaned it behind some boards. The edges were scratched, but the colors were bright and there wasn’t much rust.

Noah cleaned it real good, and I put it on Facebook Marketplace. A man from Jackson come out and paid us $200 for it. I had no idea an old sign could be worth that much, but he was thrilled, so I guess everybody won.

We talked about what to do with the money. It would be real easy to spend it on little things and then wonder where it went. Instead, we put it with our savings and decided it can start our living room furniture fund. We don’t need the room finished right now, but someday it would be nice to have a sofa and a couple chairs for friends.

Psalm 90:17 says, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.” NIV

That made me think about how provision does not always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like work, patience, an old barn, and something forgotten behind a stack of boards. The $200 did not solve our furniture problem, but it gave us a start.

Maybe that is enough for today—do the work in front of you, be grateful for what comes from it, and let small beginnings become something useful.

I better get to class. Thanks for reading my story! See you next time!

A LITTLE EXTRA by Emma Vale. Hey Emma! Always nice to hear from you. Mostly, we are teasing you about a pool. Many people would love to put in a pool, but can't afford it. At least, you can go with Jordan and the others when there's an opportunity. That's more than some people have. You and Noah got lucky with the sign, huh? I'm glad you guys are thinking ahead and put the money into savings. And ... thanks for the verse! Always a nice surprise to see you include that in your post as well as also telling the version. Thanks. I appreciate you taking a minute to check in. Always enjoy reading your story. Have a good day.
