GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller

Welcome to Thursday! I wish I had something super interesting or profound to start today with.

Mostly, today is just a regular day-in-the-life sort of day. I’m going to be working on articles, so I’ll go to the office, where Kel and Emily can work together.

I guess the big news is that Sasha and Jasmine have—along with co-conspirator Brooks McKenna—secretly created an event for Sunday to celebrate the outcome of Emily’s hearing. After church, a pile of people are coming here for a cookout.

The hot topic is that Dad invited Evelyn, who invited one of her clients, Nick. Nick also got invited by Officer Camila Lopez, who got invited by Brooks. Feel free to draw a diagram!

Officer Lopez found Emily lost at Whataburger back on the first day she arrived here in SPI and helped her find her way to Whiting Street.

Jasmine invited the manager at the factory, Sofia Torres, and her boyfriend, Ryan. Sofia was at the sleepover the girls had on Savannah’s Charm.

Brooks also invited some kids from Youth Group that I’ve not met yet.

Okay… that’s the big picture, I think.

I’m sort of focusing on the fact that Dad invited Evelyn. I feel like there's something to that, but I’m not ready to guess what!

Let’s say that’s it for this morning. I’ll check in later, so see you then.

BABY ON BOARD by Sasha Everett

Today, I’m here to check in with a little update. I did some modeling yesterday, but I was strategic about the outfits and poses.

My baby is due in January. As of now, it’s becoming pretty obvious. For today, I’ll spare you all the feelings and thoughts I have about the miracle that’s happening inside me!

Instead, I’ll go in a totally different direction.

Clay came by the studio at the end of the day and I showed him some of the shots. He had some suggestions.

With regard to the first image I shared, he said, “I think you had it on backwards. It would have been more interesting the other way.”

Well, if you know me, I’m usually up for a dare and always up for a joke! Let me know what you think! How do you think Clay will like it?

Thanks for playing along!

AT LEAST IT’S LONGER… by Ailana Geven Keller

Lunch break! Kel and Emily are in the Ryans’ condo making lunch for Josh and Geoni. I’m back at my condo where Jason has created air-fryer chicken fingers.

Geoni mentioned something to me today—Kel’s caseworker wants to have a face-to-face meeting Monday. Though the caseworker said there was no problem to worry about, I agree with Geoni that it created a little tension and anxiety.

We’ll be waiting to see what comes of that, for sure.

The other fiction project I ghostwrite for—not Cloudfall—sent a little work my way today. The email was vague: Make this better please.

As I do, I’ll change the name to protect the writer’s work. Here’s a short example of the morning’s project.

ORIGINAL:

Bob ran down the stairs to the hangar deck. He stopped to make sure no one was watching. The mission depended on secrecy, and he couldn’t afford to be seen.

MY EDIT:

Bob stopped at the top of ladder seven, one of the three accessways from deck four to the hangar deck. Secrecy was the order of the day—he needed to access the shuttle without anyone seeing him.

The hall was clear, so he moved onto the landing at the top of ladder seven. Quickly, he descended to the deck below, then ducked behind the ladder to make sure he could proceed unseen.

I’ll send that to the author. He’ll check to make sure the details line up with the canon and let me know what else he wants.

I’ve got about five pages of his work that he wants me to make “better.” I’ll have some fun with this!

I’ll check back tonight from somewhere. See you then!

DINNER FOR TWO by Camila Lopez

I had the day off, so when Nick found out, he suggested we meet for dinner. I definitely agreed to that.

We went to Nautico Island Grill, got a table, placed our order and settled in. Shortly after they brought our iced teas, the conversation became easy and relaxed.

“Oh,” I said, “about the celebration I talked you into going to with me—it got moved to Sunday afternoon.”

Nick nodded. “Evelyn’s friend Allen told her about the change.”

“I’m a little nervous,” I admitted. “Everything worked out in the end, but I sort of overlooked some details the day Emily arrived in SPI.”

Nick shrugged. “I think it says a lot that the kids wanted you to be there.”

I looked down a little. “I suppose. I’ve tried to let them know I’m around to help.”

The waiter came by to say that our orders were in and to ask if we needed anything. Then I changed the subject.

“You said the family your company works for is one of the forty wealthiest in the world?”

Nick nodded. “If they put everything in one basket, so to speak. Some days it would be in the top thirty-five, depending on market changes.”

“I looked on Forbes… you’re talking like $45 billion to $60 billion?”

Nick nodded. “That’s why they set up Benevolence Worldwide. At that level, they thought they could do a lot to make a difference.”

“That’s really generous.”

Nick nodded. “I’m pretty excited to be part of all that. The Random Acts Institute is working on replacing a bridge in a remote part of Chad. The Justice For All team is in Afghanistan working on human rights. Both are going well…”

“You just need to get your system back up for the other two, right?”

He nodded. “There’s been some progress. I’m going to work on a small project that I can set up without the computer systems. I need to get things going soon.”

I guess at that point, we settled into details and ideas about his work. Then the discussion turned to mine and some of the things I’ve done since getting here.

I’ll end by saying that I’m really pleased with how things have started between us. Hopefully… more to come!

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller

As nice as a routine day is, it can make for some pretty mundane daily chapters. But honestly, I’m okay with the mundane from time to time.

I finished my ghostwriting. I sent my edits to the author, then looked through some of my conservation and ecology notes on microplastics.

It still boggles my mind that there are five giant garbage patches in the middle of the oceans! The one in the Pacific is most famous, but there are four others—all formed by rotating ocean currents called gyres that trap and concentrate floating trash into a swirling soup.

Much of the debris in those patches consists of microplastics suspended throughout the water, alongside larger pieces of trash like old nets, bottles, and crates. Their sizes are crazy. The one in the Pacific spans an estimated 1.6 million square kilometers—roughly twice the size of Texas or three times the size of France.

So, I stand here looking out into the Gulf and taking in its sounds and smells. But my thoughts are tangled up (see what I did there) in the problems caused by thoughtless use of plastics in our world.

It’s a big issue, and I feel like I’ll use that as justification to share my standby closing…

May you grow attentive to the world and the people within it—learning what matters, choosing what is good, and acting where you can. May you become more fully yourself, offering help when it is needed, caring for creation, and leaving each place better than you found it.

Good night.

GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller. Good morning, Ailana! Another terrific morning photo! Love the hair! Jason, sir, you are hitting it out of the park this week. A pile of people indeed! Well, it's only right. A successful hearing was a really big deal. So, come one, come all, to celebrate. And Allen invited Evelyn. Very glad to hear that. Don't need a diagram now. Have a great day!

AT LEAST IT’S LONGER… by Ailana Geven Keller. Lunch sounds delicious. And the new and improved story sounds pretty good, too. Perhaps when you are further along, the author will give permission to share the title. Have a good one.

DINNER FOR TWO by Camila Lopez. Good afternoon, Officer. Um, may I call you Camila? How did Nick know it was your day off? (Wink.) That.sounds like a new restaurant. You look great, by the way. That is a lovely dress. Liking Nick's shirt, too. You too are fashionable together. Well, Officer, uh, Camila, I'm hopeful now that you are hopeful, too. Enjoy your dinner!

GOOD NIGHT by Ailana Geven Keller. I didn't know that you ever wrote about microplastics. I didn't even know that problem has a name. Saw a documentary on the AWE channel years ago about this issue. Authorities all agreed it was a problem. But it was not in any one country's boundary, so no one would take responsibility for addressing it. Maybe some updated stories will revive interest. I bid you goodnight. 🌙.
