Rebecca was pleased that Benevolence Worldwide had given her more responsibility. Her new role, directly involved in running the AI systems, was very satisfying—it drew directly on her education and past work experience.

Her time in South Padre Island had not been unpleasant, but for weeks the work seemed to be going nowhere. Still, it was hard to complain about a steady, meaningful job in a luxurious environment.

But after weeks of work, there were finally signs of progress. The restoration of Alderwick’s AI systems was nowhere near complete, but she could finally say it had begun.
