GOOD MORNING by Ailana Geven Keller
I figured I’d give y’all a little update since it feels like school and work have both settled into something that almost feels normal now.
School is good. I’m doing well in my classes, and I feel like I’m finally getting into that rhythm where I know what has to be done without feeling like everything is coming at me at once.
I still have days where I look at everything due and think, “Whose idea was this?” Then I remember it was mine.
Work at the student counseling center has been really satisfying too. The more I get to watch how everything works, the more confident I feel about eventually getting my MSW. I know I still got a long way to go before I’m there, but now I can actually see what some of that work looks like instead of it just being an idea in my head.
I obviously can’t tell anybody’s personal business, but somebody come in recently who was crying and looked completely overwhelmed. I only see little pieces from where I sit, but later I saw that same person leave looking calmer. They had somebody helping them, a plan for what came next, and maybe a little hope they didn’t have walking in.
That stuck with me.
Sometimes helping somebody doesn’t mean magically fixing their whole life. Sometimes it means helping them figure out what they can do next. I think I could be good at that someday.
Anyway, after class and work, my exciting Friday afternoon includes Walmart. Me and Noah were getting low on canned stuff and some of the dry things we keep around the house, so I stopped in Bartlett on the way home.
I went in thinking this was gonna be a quick trip. Then I remembered that grocery stores apparently hide things from me until I walk past them and suddenly remember we need them.
At least I got what was actually on the list too.
Thanks for reading my story.
