Chapter 3.1.59: MUFFINS AND FRIENDS by Hannah Madison

Happy Sunday, everyone! I hope you’re having a good morning wherever you are.

My contribution to breakfast in the common room today was muffins. I made a dozen with nuts and mixed berries, plus just a little cinnamon. I’m pleased to report that they came out looking like muffins, smelling like muffins and—after a quality-control sample—tasting like muffins. I’m calling that success.

I’ve discovered that community breakfast is one of those things that has simply become part of life here. People wander out into the common area at slightly different times, somebody is usually still finishing whatever they were assigned to make, and there is always at least one conversation going on that makes absolutely no sense unless you heard how it started ten minutes earlier.

Today, after breakfast, we’re all heading to church. We still attend New Hope Church here in Williamsburg, where Emma used to work. There’s something comfortable about having that continuity. People have come and gone, circumstances have changed, and our lives certainly haven’t stood still, but Sunday morning still takes us back to the same place.

After church, most of us are planning to take it easy. Jacob is the exception because he has to go to work—he’s a Genius at the Apple Store.

Merritt and I are going over to Central Park just because.

We pass it by all the time when we are making calls for work. Today, we’re going to stop and enjoy it.

That’s really the entire plan. No appointment. No client. No inspection. No reason to be there except that it’s Sunday, the weather is decent, and sometimes it seems worthwhile to actually enjoy the places we spend so much time rushing past.

I think I’m getting better at that.

Anyway, breakfast first. These muffins need to make it out into the common area before I decide that quality control requires a second sample.

Thank you, as always, for reading, commenting and keeping up with all of us. I really do enjoy hearing from you.

Have a wonderful Sunday. See you next time.
