Awesome! This will make for a great Friday. Thanks! Also, are Expanse episodes coming once a week or more often?

In the book, the mining spike fired through the chest happened to a random guy (it was a murder Miller learned about). To make it more shocking and impactful, the show had it happen to Havlock, but they altered it based on something that happened to a survivor of the Twin Towers collapsing on 9/11. A guy was impaled by part of the building, but it didn’t hit any major organs or blood vessels, and he lived. I’ve seen other similar medical cases discussed on shows about real life medical cases. One had a guy who crashed his car into a chain link fence; a 4 cm diameter metal pipe went all the way through his neck, but missed damaging all vital structures, and just ‘pushed them aside’ as it impaled his neck. The guy survived.

This is where the fun begins!

So glad to see you enjoying the show so much. I can tell already that you are "getting it" better than many. You do have a lot of questions, I know, but that's by design. There are a lot of mysterious elements in the story, especially in its first few seasons, and you don't know any more about what's going on than the characters do. It's very immersive. ☺ The death count does slow down a good deal after the first few episodes, but they still come, and most of them come as shocks. So you might as well get used to it (heheh). But on the other hand, you can safely write down names of *most* of the characters -- most will be with us for a while from here on out. I know you've been watching The Wire as well lately, and I'd venture that The Expanse shares some things with that show. One of them, as you noticed, is Chad L. Coleman, who plays Fred Johnson on The Expanse and Dennis Wise ("Cutty") on The Wire (he also has a prominent role in The Walking Dead, if you ever watched that, and appears -- under enough makeup and prosthetics to make him completely unrecognizable -- on The Orville). The other thing I'd say the two shows share is very exposition-free style of storytelling. Both shows basically drop you in the middle of a fully-realized, complex world and expect you to figure it out and keep up. The result is a level of immersion and investment in characters that really takes hold of you and doesn't let go. At least, that's been my experience. But they do require concentration. Neither show is one you can watch while scrolling through TikTok videos or folding your laundry. But you seem to have figured that out already, so good for you! Oh, and "Scuttle" is, I think, a military term. It certainly isn't common knowledge among native English speakers what "scuttle the ship" means. Or at least, I can tell you that a number of reactors I've seen didn't know what it meant either. Glad you're having fun! Enjoying the reactions.

Scuttling a ship is an old naval term for purposefully sinking a ship in order to stop it falling into enemy hands.

And by this episode I was knew nobody was safe. lol.

By the end of the show, you will have earned an honorary astrophysics degree... and picked up some new nautical terms.

I am trying to hold out as long as I can before I watch your Expanse reactions so I can have a bit of a backlog, but this episode makes that so hard!

You mentioned watching other reactors, I would highly suggest 'Warp Reactor'
