THE COUNCIL DISCUSS SEASON 2 EPISODE 21 OF PRIME DEFENDERS

Comments

Prest0nion

I know this is way to late but I don’t see why Dakota doesn’t just wait until his birthday and gets the experiment done

Bully Me

I dont know what happens since everything is already set in stone but I feel like the choice here is pretty simple. William's soul idea is literally perfect, pull some shenanigans, get the Dr out, have him fix Dakota, and LET HIM BE FREE because he didn't do anything WRONG. Why the hell is he in prison for life??? That's so fucking stupid.

Frankenstein

they didn’t listen when the doctor said he didn’t finish his research.(just kinda annoying) Potentially all William has to do is leave the prison with phone. Go to printer. Print out Dakota’s scan. Jog the guys memory. Let him tell all of his ideas for how to proceed with Dakota. Bing bam zop. Or just go the legal route (not actually be lawyers. Investigate and get evidence to back up the doc. Have watch do legal. Isn’t it logical to let a doctor finish a procedure you stopped him from doing.

Jackson Hunter

No, actually watch literally cannot do it legally. Dakota is still a minor and his legal guardian is in rehab. Professor Cross said so... now who didn't listen?

Jackson Hunter

Finally someone who makes sense. Look I don't even think this Doctor is a bad guy. Whether or not he's a real doctor is less important to me than the fact that when you are a scientist or doctor that was doing the things he was, it's about responsibility, and no matter how you slice it, what he did was irresponsible. Unethical not super sure, seems like it was, but Idk, the thing for me is he was irresponsible regardless, and as a doctor/scientist, that isn't right imo.

ConstantlyBen

Because he'll never not be a minor

lostincarcosa

Can’t believe his vision was like that the entire time holy shit that’s amazing

App1e_Ju1ce

If dakota lost his power and went away to train with his master for a bit grizzly could take the title of goobleck till he got back.

grillion friedstrider

I know this plot took a lot of care to make these two specific dramatic choices and I enjoy them very much, but I believe an easy solution to Dakotas problem is if they just wait the one year until Dakota is 18 (because I'm like 99 percent sure he's 17 nearing his birthday, but there is the joke about him always being 17 so idk how that works) then he can consent to augmentation from Cross(if hes willing considering how young Dakota is no matter the legal age) so as long as he doesn't stress out his bones in that one safe year, he doesn't have to risk loosing his powers. The risk of that decision is that he can actually cause damage to his body before the augmentation if he over-exerts himself, or the lasting effects of just existing for a year anyways even if he's careful. Then, he doesn't have to upset the Blake's, doesn't have to break out the old man, and doesn't have to loose their powers.

jasonthefricker

If William becomes a villain he won’t be evil, he will be callous. Knowing what he knows and being what he is, the line between life and death will continue to blur for him until it ceases to matter.

Roswell

If they go see Tide next ep I'll cry like a baby

jasonthefricker

I think that Dakota will keep his powers because he will put the lives that he could save with his powers in the few years he would have them over his own happiness. To make the choice that is best for him will be, to him, a selfish one. He has always sacrificed everything for anybody he could, and I would be surprised if that aspect of his character didn’t win out.

jasonthefricker

Ooooh solution to Dakota problem: somebody must be his legal guardian. Find out who that is, get permission for augmentations, get good bones.

Megan Shumway

here is my patreon comment - hell world hell world hell world hell world hell world

Glam

it would feel so weird if dakota didnt have his powers. like without a doubt the arc would be awesome, watching him readjust to being normal again, but man he'd have to take us on that journey too because the thought of dakota not having powers is....... (but secret third option is that unless it got changed, which has never been mentioned, tide is still his legal guardian right? if they went and saw him again maybe......he could approve the augmentation for dakota)

Gallium

i kinda hope dakota gives up his powers, id love to see how it would be played out

Krow

Tide

Jam'ez

Dakota had been my favourite pd character since the beginning and these past few episodes only solidify this. If Dakota lost his powers and he went back to his master to work for his strength back, I think this would be one if the most powerful arcs he's ever had and might just make him my favourite jrwi character ever. Though he would be giving up his super strength and speed which would be tough for him. But seeing him work through it and becoming a powerful hero without special powers would be so awesome (And even then m&m characters who have no powers and spec into martial arts are still stupid powerful) But I understand that whatever decision griz chooses for his character is final. Griz is the one who knows Dakota the most after all. (Ps, I also agree with Charlie in that we should see his training arc instead of him just disappearing for a few months)

Goonglab

Dakota as a normal person without superpowers would just be like my friend James. No one here will understand this but if you know James, you get it.

Camo Flare

i know it really doesnt make sense but i really want dakoda to like find out this is a false dichotamy or somthing and he finds a epic third option

Camo Flare

vincents movie power up should be he gets to be every class at once

Slick

I think the more interesting path is for Dakota to enhance his superpowers because I think his mental dilemma of committing a crime is more interesting than the physical dilemma of adapting to a new powerset. Also if he enhances his powers then you could work the demon into his feral form to make that even stronger but at the cost of being far more out of control than the current feral mode

Matthew Zimmerman

Dakota should totally get chi powers. He could go into the woods to train and the guys could go with him and his master teaches him how to manipulate the energy in him self and others. He could still do a lot of his current attacks and abilities but flavor them as using chi. It would also clear the way for Dakota to get more powers without needing to get more augmentations. It could even be done in a short training arc over the course of a week or so and still make sense cause chi is not physical it’s an energy. He wouldn’t need to take months/years to learn it. He could be like an iron fist type character who supplements his martial arts with chi powers.

Amy Waller

I'm in the "he loses his powers" camp. However, I do want him to suffer, so I'd love it if the Doctor got out and continued his experiments and made a nemesis for Martial Arts Dakota, that is just someone with Dakota's old powers but the better more updated version, and ideally someone they care about is the one who is changed (Holy shit, Tide gets repowered in the worst possible way). Bonus points if he fights this villain and either can't save them or loses someone he cares about in the fight, like his Master. Or, if he goes through with augmentation, he gotta get mind controlled please the boys the need to fight Dakota it would be so COOOOOL. also angst from crimes and hurting friends ooo yes. Sad boy Dakota arc would be so good.

Emerald Panda

If I’m not mistaken bizly said that all the doctor needed was a scan and he could make a mock up of the new augments so they could just show him the scan and at least get an idea for prof. Cross

Ryezun

Make Dakota ravioli bodied like Summer

ISharpZS

Dakota going back to finish his training sounds really interesting

Zelfar PenDrake

Yooo I want to see a future villains What If where William learned from Mal

Zelfar PenDrake

Theory time! Dakota Cole is dying because of the demon inside of him, but if he eats a wisp he can cancel the dying stuff, and gain angel and demon powers

John EldenRing

It’s definitely a damned if you do damned if you don’t, William can’t soul body swap into a synthetic bod like he wanted to do to Thaddeus because if the demons you’ve eaten are attached to your soul they’ll be released but also I doubt Dakota would want to go through with it so theirs no cop out. Tides going to be a big influence on what Dakota ultimately does but Charlie’s right in that tide will just want him to not break Thaddeus out of jail, so that’s what I think he’ll do. Powerless Dakota is going to be good for the story but man I can’t shake the feeling that the first few episodes are going to feel like when your dad gets starts to get old and can’t do all the things he used to :(

Kolby

From a character perspective, I don't see dakota keeping his powers at this point because of his moral dilemma. It would be in line with his character to do something sort of self sacrificing like that. Also it would be awesome to see him be this martial arts batman/daredevil thing

Kolby

Plus I could imagine a more armored design or new look for dakota if this happened

Amelia

I’m not sure.. I love this decision that Dakota’s being faced with and I think the story would be awesome either way, but I can’t shake the feeling that I wouldn’t be able to view Dakota the same way if he lost his powers. Even if he did regain them in a different way, (martial arts) I’m not sure. I’d miss the stuff he used to be able to do and I’d really like to see Dakota develop more into becoming his own person than continue to develop into someone who constantly sacrifices himself for the greater good. I don’t think at this point he’d break the doctor out, but like persistently pester the mom or someone who has the authority to let the guy out just for a little so he can have the procedure finished or bring his equipment to him or something like that. Use the normal Dakota morals and passion but for himself However, I always tend to agree with William morality over Dakota as a person both in story and my own morals, so maybe it’s just me. Again, I think it’ll play out well either way, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’d constantly be missing dakotas old powers if he gave them up.

Chronic

I don’t think Dakota should “de-power” because his powers allow him to save people that he couldn’t save before. While martial arts can help defeat villains and just useful for fighting, the powers allow for more options to save others. Running people to safety, or even, ya know, cutting a planet in half can save so many people. It’s not like he loses his martial arts either. While I’m not totally unbiased because I just love Dakota’s powers and how he uses them, I believe that they allow him to help the most people. With the powers, he wouldn’t have to let another person fall like on the rooftops.

Alex Lopez

I think it would be cool if Dakota de-power if he learned how to use the demon in him

Golden

Y'all reading this!

rat and ghost

I just want Grizzly to know that he has never disappointed me (cause he said he thinks he disappoints us). I have no idea what I would do in Dakota's situation but I'm sure whatever he chooses in the end, the story will be interesting

Haley A.S

Y’know I’m late here. But I like the idea of seeing Tide before the procedure. Tide is depowered, and seeing him be different in some ways but the same in others could really help Grizz/Dakota make the decision. With both adults in his life saying he’s always been special and seeing both his Aunt and Tide still being caring and essentially rebuilding by themselves is something that would resonate really well with Dakota. Tide would also have a insight on losing powers since he himself had to grapple with a part of him being taken away. Dakota would lose being crazy powerful, but seeing his father figure in a state of silent, comfortable acceptance sounds like a good driving force. Both Tide and Dakota run on heart, not strength.

Applepie

Become a martial artist monk but instead of ki you use the chaos demon inside

Die-no-mite

I have decided to shamelessly steal Le Frog’s character for my own MnM campaign but instead he’s called Le Croc and wears a lizard costume lmao

Squig

Honestly if Dakota loses his powers I think he should be capped at a certain power level. If he's just a normal guy no amount of martial arts could defeat someone like Atlas again. It's just illogical

FG

^^^ yeah i was thinking the same thing, and even if he chooses not to go through w it, which idk whether I think he should or not, I think some advice from someone he looks up to would be really helpful.

Dandy

Grizz said that he often does things that disappoint the patrons, but to me personally, I've always admired the choices he's made. Dakota has made hard-headed decisions but it always adds to him as a person. I don't think he'll break the doc out, even if that means losing his powers, but I think he won't be able to find away around it (I know bizly contradicted what I'm saying at the beginning, but I think there's a way and DC can find it.)

Gunkymunkyspunk

I personally don’t see why Dakota would make the decision in the next episode. Like canonically it makes sense that he would sit on it for a week two or perhaps even a month or so. One of my very few true criticisms of the show is that every now and then the characters will try to resolve something immediately when I feel that story beat would benefit from slower pacing. Right now it feels like Dakota would just be making a gamble and hoping that he doesn’t regret his decision. In my humble opinion, I think it would be cooler for Dakota to momentarily live life looking through this lense. I’d like to see him going through his day to day life of being a hero and interacting with the people around him whilst identifying what he truly values. I think giving him another episode or two to make a decision would be ideal. If needed, he could go through an entire mini arc/side quest in order to come to the decision. I think the only thing I would dislike seeing is a coin-flip decision where he just picks an option just to get past the dilemma. Otherwise I’ll be sure to enjoy however this plays out.

Keyia

Thaddeus Shaw went from "I thought you were dead" and "If only I had my lab equipment so I could run some scans" to "You'll be paralyzed in two to three years" way too goddamn fast. He literally said he sat in his lab his entire life, he's not even a doctor. He's not qualified to be doing surgery, especially with his old, shaky hands. I'm even more sus because he clearly has near to nothing to lose. He very likely lied, or at least omitted information, while working with the Blake's or they wouldn't have consented. He knows he's going to be spending the rest of his life rotting in that cell, his life could hardly get much worse. I really do not trust him.

Budbud9399

If Dakota gets demon powers from the chaos demon he would have to be called Chaos Cole I just fee like that would be a really cool hero name for him
