Hello Everyone,

I am still working hard on Hottie in the Mirror part 4. I am maybe two-thirds finished with the rough draft, depending on if I decide to include the epilogue tied into the end of this part. Some stories practically burst out of me, and others have to be dragged kicking and screaming, and this one has proven a bit of a hard nut to crack. There’s a lot of complex character stuff going on in this one, so it has taken some extra thought to get right.

How did people like the experiment with Downward Dog 3 where I released sections of it over time? I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue with that, but if people really liked it, I could start doing that as a regular practice. If people would prefer, anyone eager to help me workshop Hottie in the Mirror can shoot me an email at grogstoopid32@gmail.com and I would love to correspond.

Once I finish HitM pt. 04, My next work will be the next part of Cross Contamination, followed by a longer commissioned work.

In the meantime, here is another short reflection on my writing, specifically, on how I end my stories.

I think there are many different ways to write erotic stories. I myself have tried out a few of them. One way is to have an extremely long-running epic story that you update over dozens of parts. Cross Contamination is my foray into this kind of story. I think these stories do have at least one major downside: I think that many of them end up trailing off without a true ending. I have every intention of ending CC, but I have seen it happen to enough other series to recognize that it’s a danger.

I think endings are vital to judge the overall quality of a story. Just look at any of a dozen examples in pop culture where a disappointing ending ruined a series for some people.

So I think carefully about my endings. And I especially think carefully about how “happy” my endings should be. A lot of my stories deal with fairly dark themes. Corruption, humiliation, domination, etc. I think stories like that tend to naturally trend toward dark endings, which fit with the rest of the story. A hypnotized girl ends up a permanent sex slave. A wife is stolen and ruined by her bull. A woman is corrupted permanently into a hopeless slut.

But I also think this sort of ending can be predictable and a bit of a downer. I like to vary my endings, and, overall, I think my endings tend to be more positive than a lot of authors working with the same themes. I would say my stories range from dark endings like “The Worst Bestie” (Dan loses his girlfriend forever and becomes depressed), all the way up to truly happy endings like “Wet Witch of the West” (The villain is defeated and Carol and Tory get their happily ever after). A lot of them are between those. For instance, in most of the Freelancer stories, the targets are changed forever, but come to embrace their new lives.

I think some people feel that a happy ending diminishes the impact of a story. When they read a corruption story, some people want to see the corruption or domination be total and permanent. Otherwise, it feels cheap to them.

On the other hand, some of the most complimentary private feedback I have ever received has been over my happier endings. I think there is a certain hunger for stories that include darker kinks and don’t have depressing endings. A commenter once said to me that it is like real life fetish play: aftercare and positivity are often used to bring people back to normal functioning after sex play involving negative emotions. For some people, I think a positive ending to a story can fulfill a similar function, pulling them out of that more negative space.

All of that is to say that some people like happy endings, and some people like dark endings. I don’t think it is possible to please everyone all the time. I do whatever I think makes for a better story, but I do look for opportunities to create a variety of endings.

What do you think? Do you prefer dark endings with lasting negative consequences, showing the utter corruption or domination of the submissive in the story?

Or do you prefer lighter endings that let the submissive find a new equilibrium that they enjoy?

Any update on The Cool Mom? It's by far my favorite story from you :)

Good Question! I have a solid idea for the third and final part of the story. Maybe I can use one of my semi-weekly "Patreon Exclusive" slots for that, and write it while working on the commission project I mentioned!

I feel like its just like you said- its sweet when there is a happy ending to wrap it all up- but your stories are about someone’s corruption or transformation. I think its best when you break them into being happy with the dark ending. For example, I love how in intro to interracial relations, noah was slowly broken into to being willing to see his girlfriend become the final product she did. But I didnt like the endings to the comfort zone because it all felt either inconsequential or only sad, with the main character being broken and upset about it. Hottie in the mirror is easily my favorite piece of erotica Ive ever read, so I guess I’m hoping that we see an ending where the main character is put in a situation normal people would never be happy with, but due to the hypnosis, she is perfectly content with.

That would be amazing! Don't overwork yourself tho!

I just care if a story’s ending is satisfying. Most erotic online serials are just abandoned without an ending or go on forever. And the ones that I’ve read to completion rarely land on an ending that leaves me satisfied. Usually the happy endings are too happy and feel like the end to a schmaltzy romance novels with a final line like “and she could never imagine something she’d be happier doing.” The dark endings, equally, carry this edgy and grimdark energy of a sadistic teenage boy. Like they’re just cruelty for cruelty’s sake. I think what really matters is resolving character arc, staying tonally consistent, and culminating in a theme. You’re usually very good at endings because you’re good at balancing those plates. And I think why people like your happy endings so much is that they feel earned, resolve the character’s arcs and create an identity for the story. As for Hottie in the Mirror, I think I would want a happy-ish ending. Like, obviously there’s a corruption and a humiliation kink undercurrent, and I’d like to see that escalated and resolved. But I think more core to the story is the exploration of identity and romance between the forming throuple and how college and new relationships can bring out new sides of people, that were always there. Anton’s capacity to be a caring partner, Claire’s more dominant side, and of course the Alex/Lexi flip. In the first 3 parts it feels, tonally like it’s building to a sexual climax where Alex is publicly humiliated and dominated in a kind of definitive, life changing way. Maybe has the hypnosis revealed to him, has some kind of resolution with his father/family. And then they’re gonna have to have a kind of aftercare session with Anton and Claire, where they emotionally unpack it, maybe take some time apart, and then come back as a throuple, all embracing their new identities. I’d personally love a time skip. Maybe Lexi dates some other guys while Claire and Anton stay a couple for a minute before coming back together. But that’s just my two cents.

For me it varies. I like there to be a *change* in my endings, some sort of reshaping going on. I don't need the defeated party to be miserable, they can be happy in their circumstances, but the kind of endings that I don't really like are the ones where a character's been on the back foot throughout and then suddenly pulls a win out at the last minute so everything can return to status quo.

Always been one for stories where someone finds joy in their submission or altered state. Cause why not? Whose to say that being a married wife or proper girl or rich heir is the only happiness? Why SHOULDN'T this be happy? That said, i do get why its tough to write cause often the kind of person who would force this change on them is...not a good person. So either they have to be ditched entirely for independence or very carefully pushed towards being more likable. Also ive never like the idea that being a slut is inherently a punishment. Like sure, its not something most of society is gonna roll with but its totally something that somr people embrace.

I enjoy both types. I will say it depends a lot on the story itself and the characters involved, sometimes you want a happy ending for the characters where either they escape or one where they don’t escape but come to accept and be happy with it. Other times you want them to remain unhappy and punished by it.

A newly mindfucked sub who can't resist how much they get off on being dominated in the most bizarrely yet performative fetishistic ways! So fire!! 🔥🔥😈😈

I rather like when a damaged person is made to see their mistakes and have remorse and come out with a somewhat happy ending. While the story was great I did not like what was done in "The Wicked Stepdaughter". I thought it was too permanent and too harsh.

For me also, it depends on the characters in the particular story. I have little sympathy for Heather in "Downward Dog", but I feel the Dan got a raw deal in the Worst Bestie". In "Intro to Interracial Relations", I thought that you were way too harsh on the guys. So, I guess I am saying that I like them both depending on the story and its characters. That being said I really enjoy the stories where the main character's submissive tendencies overwhelm their common sense :)

Wow! A lot of really interesting responses here. It bears out my impression that there is a lot of variety in opinions on this topic. I guess my take away is that I should continue to write endings that fits the characters and stories, and let the stories find their audience! Expect a mix of all kinds of endings from me!

100% agreed!

I really like happy endings, and I think maybe it could be a queer thing. A lot of your stories (especially the Freelancer ones) are about characters struggling to resist these shameful, kinky, repressed desires, and then finally succumbing to them and changing their life as a result. And that's a journey I went through in real life (although my "kinky" desires were just being transgender and attracted to men... they definitely felt shameful and perverse when I was growing up). In my case "succumbing" meant finally being free to be myself, and it was a really positive thing. So when characters go through a similar journey (even if it's with something like being, um, a cow or a pig) I expect it to be a positive thing for them.
