Discussion - Generals
I know it’s not the traditional way of looking at it but maybe the orcs can be a new breed or evolution of goblin. like maybe if you combine goblin and human DNA you get an orc? I’m just spitballing. maybe the goblins did not intentionally create the the new more dominant race it just kinda happened and they end up under the Orc’s boot along with the humans that stay human? also I agree the mortality rate should be way lower so maybe more characters can be converted later. also we could always do something similar to what Tolkin did with these races and that’s explain that goblins are corrupted elves while orcs are corrupted humans. another way to make it a bit less confusing is to just make them all orcs going forward.
Okay, I’m going to give a little overview of what I had already written and planned, because I’m reading some really good suggestions.
Indeed, the idea for the goblins is for them to be able to “rebuild” a normal civilization, with females of their own race, without having to rely on females from other races to survive.
In the upcoming stories, I’m going to introduce shamans and green-skin magic. Just like humans and their mages, they are extremely rare, and they will make it possible to increase the success rate of the transformations. (It wouldn’t work if the main character managed to transform and survive every single time instead of dying thanks to his plot armor.)
What Dundee is saying is actually very close to what I had imagined. Orcs used to live on the continent alongside humans, boarmen, etc., and they looked quite similar to them.
Humans drove them away during their great conquest (I’ll talk more about that one day), and only a few small groups of refugees survived in the wastelands.
They then found themselves without any women of their own race (I haven’t figured out the exact reason yet: human raids on their villages while their armies were busy elsewhere, disease, a curse cast by human mages… basically, something I still need to develop or leave it without explanation), leaving them doomed to extinction.
The shamans of some of these groups then managed to make it possible for females of other species living there (humans, boarmen, etc.) to become fertile with them.
However, centuries of poor hybridization, combined with the harsh conditions of the southern lands (strong natural selection and violence), prevented them from building a true civilization. They became smaller, more aggressive, dumber, more savage, and more numerous.
Little by little, they became what you currently see in the comic: goblins. (This is where the idea overlaps with Skyrim’s Falmer, with the orcs themselves being inspired by Tolkien’s orcs.)
So, the short story was basically a test to see whether you guys were interested in the concept. The larger story would involve a goblin king, a goblin/human hybrid, dreaming of bringing the orc race back and, like Yurdu, Kerpos, and Beralchar, claiming their own lands on the continent.
So yeah, it’s pretty rough and underdeveloped for now, but I think it holds together fairly well.
What do you think?
Regarding the lore, I’m not a great writer, and I don’t think I could produce 20 to 40 pages of detailed, coherent lore. I like the idea of gradually introducing it through conversations and explanatory texts over the course of about ten pages. It’s just really difficult to find the right balance so that it doesn’t become too heavy or cumbersome in the comic.
Maybe I could do a 5-10 pages introduction at the beginning of the next story, with a visual element each time (world map, illustrations, etc.), like I did before to establish the context for the other comics?
All sounds good! Liking your direction you are going!
I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit.
Generals 🫡!
Well, I’ve been really struggling with the upcoming characters for the past few weeks. When it comes to the chapters, it’s easier since the characters are already there.
For the Greenskins, I’m starting from scratch, and I’m worried I might overlook something. I’m lacking inspiration, while at the same time there are so many possibilities that I feel a little overwhelmed by just how much can be done.
I’ve noticed that the more I modify a character base, the more it tends to drift toward what I personally consider beautiful. And I’d really like to avoid ending up with the same type of character over and over again, the same kind of face, body shape, breasts, etc.
Do the options in the poll work for you? More generally, what do you think about the female models I’ve been using in my stories?
I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts. I’ve been feeling a little lost creatively lately, and your feedback would genuinely help me find my way again 😶
Hi :)
I’d say that my favorite models (and stories and transformation) are the one used for the Crossroad side-stories and for the Generals’ comic (the one about orcs).
On the poll of characters, I think there is sufficient diversity for everyone to find at least one preferred model
I’m just curious but are all the transformations going to be “orc warriors” or will there be other types too. I was thinking broodmothers might be interesting as well.
I think most if not all of us are here because we find your models and stories, at the very least, appealing, even if some might not be exactly our preferred “type”. Don’t overthink too much, do something you really enjoy doing, and if doubt strikes, ask your generals. You are doing very well so far, please don’t push yourself to a creative burn out.
Hello, thank you so much for your feedback, it’s really reassuring!
I’m thinking of using the most-voted characters as the main ones, and some of the less-voted ones for secondary elements. That will also allow me to create new ones from scratch in the future, starting with a blank page.
Indeed, the whole appeal of my stories revolves around transformation, and previous polls have made it clear that I’d be better off turning my characters into orcs. You seem to be leaning more towards that idea, so broodmothers seem like a perfect fit, yes!
Now I just need to figure out how to structure the lore and the story so I can get there quickly. Not an easy task! But the ideas are starting to flow ;)
Similarly, I’ll have to figure out what to do with Talyn. I think she’ll probably take more of a background role, because indeed, her “warrior” aspect limits the possibilities a bit.
Would you like to see her again?
Hey, the transformations and your world with its fantasy atmosphere are what attract me to your stories. I think the idea with the polls is good, and that it’s now heading more in the direction of orcs too, but I thought Talyn could probably still accompany us for a bit. Thanks for the work you put into the stories. I’m curious about what’s still to come in the future. Ah, and one more question: will there be more fantasy races and accordingly more different transformations and factions? Do you already have ideas for that, or is that question jumping too far ahead?
I mean why cant there be room for goblin and orc hybrids, kinda like with the pig and minotaur peoples. I was really enjoying the story you where telling. would have ceeb cool to aww wgere that whent.
Thank you, OhMyGott. To be honest, the polls help me a lot. They don’t stop me from doing what I enjoy, because we often agree! And when we don’t, they sometimes lead me down paths I wouldn’t have taken on my own, which I find really enriching.
I’m going to keep Talyn, but a lot of new things will be introduced in the next part of the Orcs and Goblins story. The story and lore need to move forward. I’ll probably only introduce two or three new female characters at most, so I don’t overdo it.
For the other races, I have a few ideas, but nothing concrete yet. “Frogmen,” “dogmen”… It’s still too early to propose anything. For now, I’m focusing on finishing the main chapter, and the greenskins and demons (the next short story) will be on the menu. :)
Dundee, I’m not sure I understand your last sentence 😶
That said, yes, there could be a wide range of transformations: sexy ones like Talyn, or more monstrous ones. We’ll see! :)
Thanks, so there are still a lot of ideas for the upcoming stories regarding different transformations and groups. But if I already hear the teaser for orcs and demons, I’m excited, just like with the current story about the goblins and orcs (the pig people and minotaurs were also really great). Since it was also mentioned that there are different kinds of transformations as well as their intensity, I wanted to say that this is one of the other reasons why I enjoy watching your stories and supporting them, which I had forgotten to mention earlier.
I was just saying I was looking forward to seeing where that was going.
Alright, thanks for all your feedback. I really wish I had enough time to turn all of my ideas, as well as yours, into comics, but this production already takes up a lot of my time.
That’s why your feedback is so important to me: with the amount of content I produce every week, I want to make sure that every piece is as meaningful and relevant as possible 😉!
Hello I really love the design of those 4 new characters. Just to know are they based on real people ? Lucy I think kinda looks like prime Margot Robbie
Hey !
When creating my characters, I usually find existing models online that I can use as a starting point. Then I mix and match different presets (20% of one, 50% of another, etc.) until I get a nice base. Finally, I make a few fine adjustments (jawline, eyes, nose, breasts, weight, etc.).
Basically, there’s a lot of experimenting involved.
Sometimes I keep a model pretty much as is, so yes, it can happen that the final character ends up looking a lot like a celebrity if the base model does 😉
Legally speaking, I can’t commit to saying that I use models based on real people, especially given the context. But if that happens by chance, it would simply be a coincidental resemblance.
So if one day a model happens to look like Sydney Sweeney, Emma Stone, or Anya Taylor-Joy (pure random names), that’s for you to decide 😶🌫️🙂
Perception is in the eyes of the beholder or something like that. 😉🤓
