Hey everyone, this is Dael Kingsmill! In a few days I’m going to be moderating a Q&A with Matt and James about the MCDM game, so you can drop your burning questions in the comments on this post and I’ll sort through them for the stream. Make ‘em good, coz I want to extract the juiciest of deets!   We’ll be doing this live, so you’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions in chat. Can’t promise we’ll have time for every question, but we’ll try to get to as many as we can. The stream will be happening on November 28th, at 3.30pm Pacific! The link to the live Q&A will be sent out in another Patreon post on the day, so keep an eye out for that. If you’re unable to join us live, you’ll still be able to watch the recording later, so no worries – we’ll catch you on the next one.   See you on Tuesday, everyone, looking forward to it!

Hi! How will religion work in this RPG? Are there plans to make this more than just a one-line on your character sheet?

TM King

When it comes to game design, what is your philosophy on balancing around magic items in different levels of play and how often MCDM players should get them?

lone-rev

Is there an estimation on when some form of the game will be playable for the general patron/backer audience or is that impossible to tell at this point?

Skye McLaren Walton

Is Upbringing still a factor in character creation? Are the steps of generating a character still the following: Ancestry, (Culture?), Upbringing, Past, and Class + Kit? Which of those steps is the *least* fleshed out?

Lindsay

How fun! Are there plans for a mechanic like 4E cinematics?

Christian Michaels

Will the MCDM RPG ever have official variant rules published? It's one of my favorite aspects of games like Pathfinder, allowing the core rules to be modified to better fit the campaign/adventure but with the authority and playtesting of the professional designers.

Steve C

How does the game "scale" in comparison to 5e & PF as far as challenge rating goes? From lvl 1 to 10.? Thanks and I'll hang up and listen!

Propane

Are there any plans to incorporate some of the other MCDM material; S&F K&W, or something of the like? Large scale battles or villainous networks etc?

Justin Freck

How much consideration is being put into enemy mechanics and design at this stage? I know there's obviously things to fight in the playtests, but how much of those monsters will likely survive in the final iteration? Lessons learned from Flee Mortals will certainly inform dynamic and interesting monsters in this game, but I'm curious if there will be guidelines for building our own interesting and dynamic enemies, and at what point in development that side of the game typically gets polished up.

Aidan Boyle

What is the variation in group size you've tested so far? With the initiative system the way it is, it seems like the play experience would vary wildly based on the PC-to-enemy ratio. Do you have an "ideal" group size in mind at this stage?

guitarguy74

Will all existing MCDM 5E classes be adapted for the RPG (Illrigger, Beastheart, Talent)? If so, what do you foresee being the largest challenge for adapting them from D&D's d20 system? P.S.: Any word on the Illrigger revision? I have an illrigger in my group who is eager to get into the update!

Fluf Hoftis

Have ya’ll put any thought into rules in relation to verticality in fights? Moving people is a big part of the game so would something like knocking someone out of a watch tower with an arrow be a harder shot to land than a regular bow and arrow attack?

Peter

What are the goals you have in mind for the game runner? Are monster stat blocks the same as players?

NealSig

Very pleasant surprise to see Dael helping run this next Q&A!

Sir Darles Chickens

WoTC put 20 levels into their character progression. Matt's stated in a video (though I don't remember which) that the reason they did that is because leveling up is fun and engaging. How does MCDM plan to cultivate that type of excitement and engagement with only 10 levels?

Azurel

I’ve heard the examples of the power levels of characters of level 1 characters (captain America) and level 10 characters (Hercules) but can we get some examples of the intermediate levels, such as level 3, 5, and 8?

Kill Your Masters

Will this be an all in one book DM Guide/Players Handbook/Loot book? Will there be a simple formula for translating the monsters from your monster book to this system?

Sir Darles Chickens

What's the anticipated length of time that a play group will play before reaching level cap?

Daniel Minty

What can you tell us about teamwork mechanics you have planned for the RPG? This is something I think that the current popular fantasy RPGs fall down on, turn based combat can make it feel like the players are all doing their own thing, not actually all working together.

Bad at Masking

How long do you think it'll be between the campaign and printing?

duskmancer

New to the patreon! How is running the MCDM rpg as the GM/Director different from running a DnD game or from running a Powered by the Apocalypse game? What kind of changes or mechanics are you most excited about implementing on the GM side of things?

Sir Darles Chickens

What's the anticipated power level of level 10 characters? Is that going to be analogous to 20 levels in 5e where characters are approaching demi-godhood? Will there be any capstone abilities similar to Paragon Paths and Epic Destinies from 4e?

Sir Darles Chickens

Will this system be adaptable to the types or styles of game a DM might want homebrew? For example: a near-future Cyberpunk type game, or a distant future game like DUNE or Numenera?

Sir Darles Chickens

Will there be guides and examples for DM's looking to create items, NPCs, and monsters like in the 5e DMG?

Sir Darles Chickens

Are you expecting to be able to fit everything into one book or do you plan to have multiple books as basic starter material, like PHB/MM/DMG?

Sir Darles Chickens

Will all of the products MCDM has released be updated to be usable with the new system? I really don't want to have to buy the books twice.

Miranda Hawthorne

Is countering still a big part of combat? How many counters do you expect out of a typical encounter? Are there PC abilities that are only available to use as counters?

Chad Desrosiers

I don’t think this has been asked in a Q & A yet, but I’ve had this question in mind for a while: Are we going to see the Teeth of the Dragon at some point as magic items?

Sawyer McKay

Are y'all kicking around any potential names for the RPG you'd be willing to share?

Sir Darles Chickens

I have never heard anyone complain about having more information to help them understand when looking at a Monte Cook product. Can you please please please include references with page numbers that are hyperlinked? I would love to see that become standard in the industry. It's unbelievably helpful when you are at the table running a game and don't have time for a lengthy look up. Sidebars are a solid WIN for me.

Steve C

Not at the moment but I am a believer in the holy trinity.

Sir Darles Chickens

I believe it's widely thought that 5e breaks down at high levels of play. The equity between classes falls apart. How is the MCDM rpg going to manage the power problems that other games like D&D struggle with at very high levels of play?

Random Roll

Do you separate the game into different overarching activities such as 'Combat', 'Exploration', 'Downtime', 'Travel', etc. with rules and such that govern those activities?

Kuroshi

How much, if any, work/thinking has been done on research and crafting?

Reformed Hillbilly

How many classes, at the moment, are you viewing as core? Also, past products have given me a lot of confidence in MCDM design. Keep up the good work.

Eugene Cheney

I’m really excited for this game! Been following it since the beginning and I’ve learned so much! Talk about value way above cost! How can I best share it with my friends, or even just anybody, to build excitement for the game and on board to back the crowdfunding??

Sir Darles Chickens

Will there be, and if not, can you please, stream an adventure using the new system? We all desperately miss The Chain and we're going to need to see the new game in action.

Sir Darles Chickens

Will there be an online character builder or VTT eventually? I've recognized MPMB's character sheet in the Chain videos. Any thought about working with an established entity to incorporate that?

micah french

What can you tell us about your warlock analog? I believe you’ve named it the Acolyte.

Game Academy

With how armor and defenses have changed from early development, and how it's been mentioned that the Shadow was a big factor in seeing how a character can avoid damage, does each class have a way to actively avoid/mitigate damage? Would these options be a choice when building/leveling up your character or be part of their core options/kits?

Benjamin Bandelow

What kind of day one (or later date) as well as ongoing support can we expect for VTTs? Following up, what will any VTT support be like? For example somewhere between free (e.g. a bare bones game system), pay-for-premium (everything in the book plus tokens and maps, full rules integration etc) and 'freemium' (e.g. like Pathfinder 2nd Edition support on foundry: full rules integration, including automation, for all classes, abilities and monsters but no integrated trade dress - so no tokens, maps, lore. Just the crunchy bits). Are there plans to, at a later date, adapt or integrate already existing MCDM content such as the Illrigger, Flee Mortals etc? Will the KS include higher price tiers for gimmicks/addons like dice/dm screens, deluxe covers (exclusive art, leather or leatherette cover etc), whale-level stuff like integrating backers into the book (e.g. "your portrait as an NPC!", "design your noble house with the team that is then integrated in the book" etc) and or other stuff that I can't think about right now?

Harrison Clayton

Matt has previously spoken about a personal preference for unique magic items playing an important role in making players feel heroic. Is this something we can expect to see? How will magic items differ from that of other games?

Joe G

If the game is mainly fighting monsters and negotiation, what role do you see utility type powers having in the game?

Chris

Given the growth of mcdm and the rpg, will we be seeing less running the game? No shade just wondering

Ormus Erebus

As far as I am aware, the 'base' setting for the new RPG is Matt's world of Orden and the Time Scape(timescape?). Has any work been done, or thought put into, providing some level of detail on the various cultures that exist so our character options are multi-cultural? I'd like to know more about Ix, or Khemhara(sp) so that I could make a cool character from there!

NealSig

We know the number of Classes that are considered "core" to the game is still up in the air due to the page count limit, and also that there will be ways to customize your Class choice further (akin to subclasses, prestige classes, etc.). From a design perspective, is MCDM prioritizing a greater breadth of Classes or greater amounts of in-Class customization with regards to this page limit within the core rules?

BRex

I always thought of utilizing the terrain to your advantage as one of the core aspects of strategy. How will terrain and players utilizing the terrain to their advantage change the flow of battle in the RPG? Are there effects such as difficult terrain or natural phenomenon that affect visibility? Btw I just wanted to take the time to say that I absolutely love what you guys are doimg and seeing this game evolve over the past few months has been both exciting amd enlightening for people who are interested in game design! This game will be so awesome! :)

Benjamin Bandelow

What out-of-combat systems will there be, e.g. skills, non-combat spells/abilities and dedicated systems? We already know a bit about negotiation, but what else will there be? How in depth will the customization of those things be?

Cormac Connolly

How do you usually manage ranges in theater of the mind? Have you gotten any feedback about how the game runs off the grid? I find, even in very tactical games, some types of combat just work best off a grid: running fights, a series of small combats, or impromptu fights I wasn't expecting. If you get to it, thanks for taking my question. Excited to see you involved Dale! Love your work and community involvement!

Hive_Indicator

Dael, a genius during the livestream tonight said they hoped you'd ask the questions like you were talking to Remainer. Just thought I'd let you know that pretty cool idea

Eoghan

Will there still be a use for the d20?

Tohellwithyourcrap

I don't have a profound or insightful question, I'm just curious if there will be a kit/class that supports the medival sniper/Crossbow Marksman archetype =)

sklogw

Very excited for the RPG! Is your feeling that having retainers and other mechanics from S&F and K&W will be core to the game?

Brandon Harms

I absolutely love what you guys are doing with having each class having its own unique resource to differentiate classes and build mechanics for that specific class. how have you avoided having the 5e monk problem (never wanting to use weaker abilities because they draw from the same resource pool as the stronger abilities)?

Brandon Harms

Last week you put out a YouTube video describing the use of “Forward!” And a time you got to use it. 1) will you be naming most abilities after what you imagine the character actually saying as they use it. There’s something cool about the reading of your ability being built straight into the RP. 2) can you describe another ability that you’ve gotten to use to great tactical effect like that?

Inge

I have two questions, 1) I know that the 1st level characters will be stronger than in 5e, but do you imagine them as being more complicated? 2) Have you thought more about the license? For example, If I want, will I be able to publish a setting guide for my world using your rules?

Wizard Shenanigans

Hi Dael 👋 I don't know if it's been answered before, but is there any indication of how easy/hard it will be to port existing MCDM content (Where Evil Lives; Flee Mortals; Psionics Beastheart etc) over to the MCDM RPG?

John Wayman

Any updates on the scenes system?

Max

Are you ready to talk about what's filling the role of the defunct background system?

Marcel Theilig

Are you planning to put rules for retainers into the mdcm rpg book?

Brandon Harms

How does the team approach different aspects of balancing? How do you balance different abilities within a class to make sure they all have a reason and a time to use them. How do you balance classes against each other so that none feel like the “right answer”. Or at least there aren’t classes or skills that feel like the wrong answer. How do spells like vampiric touch end up in a game like d&d when you can look at it and see at a glance that the numbers are so low it shouldn’t even be in the game. Will play testing catch these things? If so, did d&d forget to play test that spell because casting it once tells you how unfun it is immediately.

RasendeGurke

When MCDM releases its new RPG, onboarding is likely going to be a decisive factor in its success. What are your plans to make it easy - even for people outside your community - to quickly see whether the game is going to be for them?

Bestest Fin

Once the crowdfunding is completed, will crowdfunders also get access to posts like the ones we've been getting on Patreon? Or is the main perk of being a Patron after the crowdfunding access to the preview packet sooner?

Tabletop Nonsenseverse

Tying this game to the "Towards Better Rewards" concept, are there any thoughts on what is the reward for playing? Will it be magic items, or more powers that can only be unlocked by going on specific adventures?

Jesse Friszell

Online character generators are almost a must for my players. Any support for that kind of thing on release?

Sean Teater

Which VTTs will be supported for the game, and to what extent? I would love to see support for Foundry.

Richard Miller

Great to have you for this Dael (they'll be doing it at a reasonable hour for our side of the world). If the idea for kits holds up (and I hope it does), how might magic items interact with that?

Demifly

do dwarves bleed?

BRex

Will there be a Necromancer or Necromancy in the game and will it be framed as "good" or "complex" instead of "evil" as it traditionally is? On that note: how will you handle player death in the game and will you consider the phenomenological adherence to Aristotle's poetic structure as part of the game mechanics? ... These questions are mainly because Dael is here! :D

Demifly

do you have to use a maneuver to change between melee and ranged options of a kit (like pulling your bow from your back might take time) or is it assumed to be something you can do quickly (Like belmont from Castlevania Nocturne throwing daggers).

That black guy

Is there any queues you all are taking from the R. Talsorian's character creation system with the talk of Upbringing & Past during character creation reminds me of R Talsorian's life path system which fleshed the character out before the player had to write a single word.

Frederica Teather

What is your plan for marketing? Do you want this game to be main stream or mostly for viewers of the channel already?

Joshua Heisler

One of the fun parts of Baldurs Gate 3 is reaching some hard to get to ledge and having advantage on your attacks (and then maybe being pushed off). Is there a plan for players to get Boons from height advantages or other terrain factors?

Versa Lee

How have playtesters responded to magic items in your testing so far? As far back as I can remember, each system I have played has simply had something just a little off about their magic items. Be it they are assumed to not play a big role in the game, or they are assumed to be so monumental they are literally mandatory, to them being so omnipresent that each item feels meaningless (because who is going to remember 30 consumables and 20 minor magic items?) I'm super excited for your iteration though, because Matt's personal experiences with magic items mirrors the experience I want to have.

Christian Keegan

So you can command your minions as some sort of Overlord?

Christian Keegan

I'm curious how far the team is with class level design and whether the intention is still to offer subclass. Is it possible that you have other class choice options that take the place of subclasses?

Christian Lange

Will Dael get to try the RPG again soon, so she can talk about it on the Ghostfire Podcast some more?

Christian Lange

Will there be advice/rules for fighting in moving terrain? Like racing down the road in a carriage being chased by bandits on horses, participating in a aerial battle with the Hawk Lords, or sailing on a ship while battling a dragonturtle?

Jeremy Scroggs

I really liked the idea of stamina and health being separate because it was so easy to imagine taking stamina damage (you dodge but lose some energy) or taking hit point damage (you were too slow and took an actual wound). With armor adding to HP, I struggle to fit that idea into the "reality" of the game. If a character takes 10 damage and has heavy armor, does healing magic... fix your armor? Do you have any ideas about how to fix that sort of "imagination dissonance"?

Cool Bag

I'd love to hear more about any fun Maneuvers the team has come up with, especially if any are tied to specific classes.

Ulises Oliveros Bahamondes

I love the "I" do the damage mechanic and the kits in replacement from weapons and armor. But do you think that this new game design can support the fantasy of disarming? Is combining kits with a penalty a possibility?

Jan Plewa

How do I make a good playtests? Currently I'm usually either over- or underpreparing.

Deborah DeMoss

How are experience points going to work? I know in the past you’ve talked about xp as a way to motivate players into the behavior you want, such as xp for gold incentivizes dungeon exploration. Will this be explored or are you leaning towards a more modern approach for xp?

Ry

You've both mentioned that there's a list of classes in the order of how necessary they are to the game, so that if classes need to be cut for space you know which one(s) to cut. How high up on the list are the Talent, Illrigger, and Beastheart?

Volition RPG

What are the most useful tools and rules you expect the RPG to include for helping making the job of DMs easier?

Michael Jerde

Everytime I have to generate characters for the Seattle game, I have to block out at least an hour if I do it on paper (not counting the research time to make them not suck). What is the target time for character generation? How will you support new players to the game not only create a powerful fighting machine with Kits, but also to create a dynamic (and engaging) history with Pasts?

Christian Straubhaar-Jones

Any ideas on ways to make the various variables in negotiations easier for players to keep track of, at least initially as they learn the system? Blades in the Dark Clocks or some kind of "general interest meter"?

Ben Bridges

What is the financial investment that DM’s should expect to get into the new game? Additionally is the maximum one might be able to spend on books?

Scriptomancer

As someone who prefers playing as a DM/GM, I'm most interested in systems with strong tools and guidelines for building fun encounters and campaigns for my players. What resources or materials are being developed for GMs? Any plans for a GM guide or similar source book? What is the MCDM team's vision for the fantasy of playing as the GM?

Max Allen

Do you foresee any worldbuilding tools to be native in the source books and what sort of DM tools in general will you be providing especially since the idea of a standalone DMG isn't very popular.

swingsetpark

Is there a plan to have a published adventure ready at the time of launch? If so, what authors and editors are you working with to make it happen? Finally, what guidelines or tools will you provide to interested authors who want to create for your new RPG?

Hayden Pech

My old group has split and now we play over the inter-webs, are there plans to adapt the rules for Fantasy Grounds or similar VTT’s?

Steve C

To the creators, (Matt, James, etc, al. I jumped into the water kinda early & was told in an email that playtesting the rules didn't require an NDA. That it was all going to be laid out for patrons as you all released then in the Patreon. The intent of the email was to express desire to integrate the rules into our own Kickstarter world setting (Khor World next year.) & that we intended to be exclusive to MCDM rules. We want to "partner up" with MCDM hopefully to help both businesses. *I don't want to give WoTC one damn penny! Here's the rub. With the amount of cash we already have in the world setting, dropping another $100 on MCDM rules will cut into our budget. So hopefully lets get together on this soon. Thanks MCDM for helping everyone break these TTRPG chains that WOTC has put on us! Steve C. Lead Designer Khor The World Of Many Portals.

David Denis

How are you balancing cinematic with tactical across the different pillars? For me a cinematic game has really good pacing where slowdowns in the action are purposeful and the action-packed bits are fast and exciting. I love a tactical game (like chess, and wargames) but it can come at the cost of a cinematic feel as players strive to make the "perfect" move. I know the question of "how long is combat going to take" annoying but I would love a more design/values oriented take on these concepts! Love the work and excited for the MCDM RPG

Elijah Espinosa

If y'all continue Dusk and/or The Chain in the rpg, would you want to start the characters at 1st level or jump ahead to a level analogous to when we last saw the heroes? I'm asking because I and probably other folks might like to transition existing campaigns (in other systems) into the rpg

andrew burgess

Newbie question - what's it actually called MCDMRPG or is that a working title? Or will the be a suggestion competition for something suitable to generate enagagement?

andrew burgess

Will base book include one or more "starter regions" for a shared game world (like Fantasy Age); or is a game world book a stretch goal? Or going to come with conversion notes to allow relatively easy retrofitting of campaign worlds.

Skeleton wizard

Which class is currently closest to the "warlock" archetype found in many D20 fantasy games? If none fit, what lead you to not include that archetype as a core class? Keep up the great work :)

Andrea Costantini

What was the primary motivation for pursuing the cinematic, high fantasy, heroic themes as a focus for the MCDM RPG?

Rowan

Three questions on spell casting: 1. How accessible will a given spell be? Do you expect to have a specific list for each class or subclass, or might there be some overlap? 2. If combat spell casting power increases by turn count, how will you balance that with casting spells out of combat? 3. How robust of a utility spell list do you expect to have compared to combat focused spells?

Mammoth Factory Miniatures

I am going to get a bunch of hate for this... but purely from a d&d replacement strategy. Why not having a d20? It is the symbol of role-players everywhere - I honestly believe it is such a non starter because of this. JUST TO BE CLEAR I will still 100% play this! And I do get the the whole point with the math.... but for mass adoption... feels sad that it will be limited to only people that are willing to ditch the d20... which sadly is a small minority in the space. (Please consider me mere nerd... that loves your stuff)

Christian Michaels

Not a rep of MCDM, but my guess is that HP is going back to the classic interpretation of health+defensive stamina rather than just health, and armor acts as a magnifier of those properties. Another view: if you can think of armor as a damage reducer, you can inversely think about it is a health booster. The end result is the same, but now the math of armor is applied to your character sheet rather than the calculations done at the table in combat

Douglas Grion Filho

On damage types and resistances/vulnerabilities. Will there be such a thing as lightning, fire, necrotic etc damage types (I imagine so but thought to ask just in case) and will monster resistances work in a similar way to 5e, or more like 3e and pathfinder with a DR system, or will it be something else entirely? I ask this because the main joy I get as a DM is making up dope magic items, and a lot of the time for me that revolves around damage types, conditions, and the synergies one can create from those.

wyatt wustrau

How has black Friday been for the company?

Quinn Choffin

How are magic items going to work in the system i.e. is it going to assume that PCs are getting them regularly and will there be built in guidance for DMs to adjust encounters based on what magic Items their players have?

Tucker Austin

Will the core release include a starting adventure? Does MCDM have a planned road map for additional support materials after the core release? If so, what could we expect?

Gustavo

Is there a chance for an edition in a foreign language (like German) some day?

Zawad Chowdhury

What's something you guys have had to put on the backburner for now, but are very excited to get to?

Demifly

we have heard a good bit about some examples of kits like the shining armor and the panther kit but we have not heard much about caster focused kits. Are there any caster kit examples you are happy with or any archetypes are excited to fulfill using caster kits?

Chris Bissell

Matt's videos on skill challenges and action oriented monsters really changed my games. Will there be rules/guidelines for skill challenges in the new game? What form will they take? What Kits and Classes are you most excited about?

Sir Darles Chickens

Will/can MCDM work on a packet that's easy to find and understand that outlines the steps needed to publish material for your game?

Jean-Paul Skeete

Do Kits have "cooldowns" or restrictions? And if not are you concerned about players min/maxing with swapping Kits?

The Adversary Archive

Will the system rules translate well for PVP? (From someone who runs a West Marches table with occasional PVP)

Steve C

Our playtest group for Khor is about to hitch all the wagons to MCDM for our Kickstarter. It's going to be quite large. 320pg campaign sourcebook, 180pg players guide. 180ppg of new monsters & NPCs, and some unique stretch goals.. So.. how would MCDM feel about having their rules be the "core for Khor?"

Miranda Hawthorne

What are the current "core" classes and is there wiggle room in the page count to add more?

mcdm

Nope! Those belong to Jim Murphy, not MCDM.

simbini2004

What does a work schedule look like for building an rpg like this in the MCDM team? Is everyone pulling 80 hour weeks like stressed-out video game devs? I hope not :P

LostAddict

Has there been anymore development into the "Past" system for character creation? How much of your character do you expect a player to gain from their "Past"?

Alex

Dael!! I'm listening to Dusk on podcast, and I'm so in love with Llevelys and how you portray them! My question for the team is: Are you concerned about avoiding the "null result" in skill checks? What is your current thinking on skills and skill checks at this phase in development?

Daniel Dias

Will there be things like "I know a guy" rules incorporated in the Past mechanics? It would be nice to give the players the chance to create their own NPC's

Cool Bag

I'm interested in the development of your wizard-type class(es). The fantasy *I* like in wizards is basically the "wise old person" variety, which might be hard to capture at lower levels(?). What is the fantasy you're trying to capture with the Elementalist, and are any other wizard-type archetypes being discussed?

Alexandre Carreira

How do you plan on supporting DM’s in terms of prep work from a rule book perspective?

Sir Darles Chickens

Will there be an analog to Multiclassing? Maybe literal KitBashing?

Sir Darles Chickens

How will the game handle "level zero" style play where a DM runs something for starting players with new characters to get them into the world and introduce them to the new rules? I'm a firm believer in level zero play and want to make sure that's included.

Sam McGurran

Is the Conduit a healer at heart, or could you play one much more focused on smiting?

Zach N

Published adventures that are thoughtfully designed and written in a way that makes them easy to run are way too hard to come by. I think this is an area where MCDM really outshines other creators. Can we expect pre-made adventures to ship with the MCDM RPG core game, or are those farther down the road? (I can't imagine being *more* excited for just the core game, but if you told me I'd also get an MCDM-crafted set of adventures to take characters from Level 1 to 10, I'd find a way. =^D )

Cameron Elston

Is there a concept for domains like in D20 systems for the Conduit?

Cameron Elston

Is there a Eldritch/Warlock/Witch-like archetype in the works as a starting class?

Cameron Elston

Does MCDM have a favorite virtual tabletop? If so, which one and why?

Sir Darles Chickens

It's very important that I be able to grab a goblin by the ankles and beat the rest of the goblins with their friend. Can we make that happen?

BasCB

yep, Christian, that is exactly the fantasy that's been mentioned. Creating your legion of undead minions :-) I hope they pull it off, because that really feels like what all us necromancy dabblers have been working on for all those years

BasCB

A lot has been written in patreon posts about that already. But basically it boils down to the issues with the swingyness of D20 results to determine successes.

Patrick Colvin

One of my favorite RtG videos is "Toward Better Rewards." Any thoughts on how one might incorporate those ideas into the MCDM RPG?

Skull Azure

How much do you think characters will be able to 'think outside the sheet'? Do you plan on having things like interacting with the encounter map overweight simply playing your class in an efficient manner? "Why should I swing from the chandelier when my basic attack grants me Fury and deals more damage?" Is this planned to interact with boons and banes?

Austin Funk

How well will the kickstarter have to do in order to have add-ons/ stretch goals for setting books, like The Timescape?

atomicsorcery

Can you walk through choices made during character creation ?

Drak thn Bolak

Which element of the design thus far are you most proud of? Which seems most inspired?

Michael Jerde

Thanks for taking my question! I like the way y'all are trying to make character generation fun. That's the good design I'm looking for, regardless of time it takes.

Mammoth Factory Miniatures

I know I know... but still there must be a way.... and I am worried that the adoption of this system Kinda depends on it. It will be a success anyway for sure. But its such a shame.

Jeremy Scroggs

They are the same mathematically from the perspective of taking damage, but they are not the same thematically in the logic of the world. Let's say a fighter has 20hp with no armor. He dons some plate mail and then he gains +10hp for 30 total. A bugbear hits the fighter for 5 damage. Can the fighter take off his armor and still be at full 20hp? I would presume so, since the armor is supposed to be protecting him from damage. Let's assume that is the case, then when the fighter is wearing his plate armor that has taken 5 damage, does healing magic return him to 30hp? From a game mechanics perspective, you would assume that it does, but from the logic of the game world's perspective, is the magic repairing armor instead of closing wounds? That's a weird healing magic. If the armor is taken off and retains that 5 damage that was done to it, can cure wounds be cast on the armor laying on the ground? Sure, you can just handwave all that away and say "don't think so hard about it", but for many players, that erodes verisimilitude.

Arash - Game Narrative 101

Are domains and warfare not part of the core books? If not, any idea what form they will come in? (their own books? part of setting books?) I'm running 5e with K&W at its very core and it feels like it would be a step backwards to start a long campaign without these tools

Arash - Game Narrative 101

Oh also, one of the theses of this game seems to be actually designing stuff D&D just kinda points to and leaves e.g. the 5e wizard doesn't really get any prompts or goals or anything to do stuff OUTSIDE of fights that make them feel like a wizard. Any interest in classes/kits addressing downtime with some goals, duties, etc.?

With the playtest material available can we run outside playtests? Should we limit it to other backers and/or patreon members? If we can whats the best way to give feedback on our games?

The Knight of Davids

I'm in the patreon and a backer, is there any guidance about sharing cool things that come up in either?

The Knight of Davids

If we are allowed, and we create things for our own playtesting, can we share these things? I'm thinking of adventures mostly but maybe other things we create in the process too.

The Shadowdark license is amazing. I'm glad MCDM is looking at it as a model. It does occur to me that third parties making things under the Shadowdark license for Shadowdark can lean on that other games SRD in the CC because Shadowdark itself leans on it. The MCDM RPG doesn't near as much. Are you considering an SRD like document to cover that gap? Or do you have a different plan?

The Knight of Davids

GenCon, I'd love to support MCDM in some way at GenCon. I've run a lot of games at conventions and would love to volunteer for MCDM. Have you considered a play area or organizing DMs for gaming there? Even if its a "State of the Game" playtest events?

The Knight of Davids

I love cool end papers. Like for maps in The One Ring or in Swords of the Serpentine, or something useful like tables in Mork Borg or it's sister games, or even cool art like in Labyrinth or full spread art like in the DCC books. Would you consider such a thing for the MCDM RPG? Have you?

The Knight of Davids

What are you looking for in a line editor? Is there a short list? Would you share that with us?

Yeah I don't know why i just got an email about this.
