This was a super fun one to do because we got to see Brian Drummond as well as Chris Sabat's performance in both versions!

Drummond’s Vegeta feels like a cartoonish mad scientist and it gels with very early Z Vegeta pretty well. I love the Ocean Dub’s more naturally 90’s cartoon feel.

I think my favorite part out of this video so far is vegeta's wrath comparison. Like, Personally, I like the ocean dubs version of that scene. But from og DBZ dub to Kai, you can definitely see the improvement in voice acting

Also, in vegeta's death comparison, you can see the misconception or miscommunication in one of the dubs. Because, in the og DBZ dub, him saying he made me what I am didn't make sense, because in the manga or the jp sub, he didn't say anything remotely close to that. So i'm really glad that Kai redidd that scene to the more accurate lines. But when you do part 2, you will see a huge misconception or miscommunication later on.

That “one whopper of a lizard” part is also funimation and Sabat btw lol. At that point sabat was trying to imitate Drummond since the switch had just happened

You guys should check out some Ocean Dub clips from the Saiyan Saga. Peter Kelamis as Goku is pretty damn good!

Yeah it got confusing because Sabat was doing it so differently during our "ocean dub" segments so that we weren't 100% sure if it was sabat or Drummond. (There's no credit in these clips I'm getting LOL)

I think for the future you may want to consider throwing the Japanese version in there as well, just to see from an English adaptation perspective how each of the dubs translate and deliver the content.

It was nice seeing the comparison. Personally, I'll always pick the Z or Kai dub over Ocean, but that's because those are the ones I've heard all my life and anything else just sounds wrong to me (outside of Abridged at least). I'm 100% biased in that regard. "That's one whopper of a lizard" has to be one of the most hilarious lines I've heard in a dub recently regardless.

Shadow 😭😭 we're talking like 2+ hour videos now hahahaha. We're really just taking a peek at english dub since that's what everyone is all up in arms about. I think the Japanese dub is always looked upon as being the best and closest interpretation.

For me Ocean doesn't do well with the lines specifically - What I mean is the dialogue said doesn't fit Vegeta for instance Vegeta would never call THAT ASS BEATING ON EARTH Training lol - Lol I know yall not including DBZA But Vegeta does it best I got my ass beat and the only reason i'm telling you is because you won't live to tell anyone else

i really dont like the ocean dub , the voices dont match the characters, its the same reason i dont care for the dbz sub, goku is this big buff tough guy but being voiced by a small japanese woman, it just feels weird,especially in like namek when goku looks like he weights 450 lbs of pure muscle

Another thing to take into consideration with all of the comparisons with the funi version is the majority of all the characters lines besides goku's were redubbed again for the frieza zaga explicitly.

The two first Friezas have the alien sound down, but Chris Ayres really gives a memorable sadistic prince sound to him!

I actually think the simpler dialogue in the Drummond version of the Vegeta's anger scene fits with the performance, as he's gone so mad with rage that he's not even capable of more complex thoughts at this point.
