This series is amazing, I think I'm gonna get into it also this season. Keep it up fellas

Hammy

Why is this on the patreon feed?

Peter Edwards

You are wise to not like Newcastle, that way lies sadness

Tarren

I think you should get a map up of the UK in the studio, it will help you visualise the teams better and you'll eventually be the only two Americans that are ok at geography.

Subey

oh my f**** i just shit my pants seeing the name of this podcast. My two heroes talking about my third hero (Declan Rice). Come on you irons please make the right choice. Please. PLEASE. I'm taking my spring break this march to go to london to watch two west ham games couldn't be more excited.

Peter Edwards

Amir should watch Green Street to see Elijah Wood becoming a West Ham fan (and a hooligan)

Charles

COYI, West Ham is a great team to root for, also Amir we have a great cheer, look it up it's called "forever blowing bubbles" and I think you'll find it very funny

James T

And COY in general means “Come on you _______”. Multiple teams use for their team, inserting their own name.

Peter Edwards

Even if you are not going to support Leicester, you should get someone to tell you the full story of them winning the league, it’s even more amazing that you would think. That same person can tell you how to pronounce Leicester too

Jorge Collings

Neutral fan here so hopefully my advice can be of some assistance! First off - for most of us, the idea of a playoff is disgraceful as it takes amazing consistency to finish top of the league and there are 3 other cup competitions to win - the Champions League final is our equivalent of the Superbowl. It's probably the best for you to pick a top 6 team (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, United, City, Spurs) as they will win the most and have the highest-stakes matches throughout the season (Play in Champions league etc) but its definitely acceptable to root primarily for one top 6 team and be a casual fan for one team that is lower in the table as they'll never directly compete. Manchester City play the best football and have the best manager so a lot of the hate is jealousy but they have indeed spent a lot of money since being bought out. Liverpool fit your description of a "former great that is building a comeback" - if you want an Icelandic player, Sigurdsson is the best one and plays for everton (Who are liverpool's rivals). Arsenal have the worst fans by far, United are probably the most hated team historically, and spurs are indeed the jewish team, but are incredibly boring. Hope this helps!

Rikard Ström

By the way guys, it's not "The Hotspurs" or "The Spurs". It's Spurs or Tottenham Hotspur! Hope you make the right choice, if you go for Arsenal we'll all be very sad. Including you. They're terrible at the moment. They haven't played in the Champion's League 2 years now, and they almost certainly won't next year either.

Mike Woodward

I agree with the idea of not picking a team this season. It takes time to figure out which team speaks to you. I got into football after the 2010 World Cup and it took me a whole season to find my team. Also a note against Tottenham: The team in it's current form has reached it's peak and are now underperforming to expectations. They haven't invested and their thin-bare squad is showing it's limitations. They're also notorious for 'bottling it' aka falling short at the last moment. In fact that's what the term being 'spursy' means. Pretty much every other team (minus City) in the top 6 have more potential and are more interesting to watch. Spurs do have a Jewish connection for sure, but so do Arsenal, because they're from the same area of North London.

joe watson

Tottenham are doing well recently but are historically boring and throw away matches when they're winning, they also don't really compete in Europe (the Champions league). English football fans won't support the top four competition idea as it just isn't historic, you win the league and that's that - you've won the league. West ham are a good choice this year, although the best you can hope for is them qualifying for the Europa league (this is basically a crappy version of the champions league where European teams that weren't quite good enough to play in the champions league compete with each other. Regarding the colour of the footballs, they use white balls in spring/summer/autumn and a yellow ball in winter - I think it is so the ball would stand out in the snow (although these days most clubs have heated turf so it isn't an issue. Its so funny to hear you guys talking about football. I think you should support Liverpool. Just don't pick City (and i'm from manchester). Liverpool are a once great team (the best team in the world in the 1980s) who are just now regaining their greatness and are turning into one of the best and most entertaining teams in the world. They haven't ever won the Premier League and the last thing they won was the Champions League in 2005 when they came from 3-0 down at half-time and won on penalties in one of the best football matches of all time. PS. Its 'teams' not clubs ie 'West Ham are my favourite team' PPS. COYI means 'come on you irons' (irons is slang for West Ham, because the team is originally a football team formed by employees of an Iron workshop in London.

Rack Nicholson

The ads on the jerseys replace the obnoxious “Smoothie King Centers” that we have in the United States. In England there is more history associated with the stadiums(Old Trafford, Wembley, St. James Park, etc.), so those names never change but they don’t care so much about an ad on a jersey. They probably think our company-themed stadiums seem just as foreign. Also COYI.

Max

Love you guys, but don't care about this podcast.

Brian Murphy

Jake, Arsenal is the team made for you. A once great team which has fallen, who are now battling to become great again whilst playing free flowing beautiful attacking football. Declan Rice ruined my day. Come and join Unai Emery’s red and white army.

2026-09-26 20:00 Jake's great team with rich history that has fallen & making a comeback is very Manchester United or Arsenal. Please cover both, talk to both fans. I would definitely look into Manchester United more though, Arsenal fans don't even want to be Arsenal fans anymore.

Maxime Gavronsky

I’m telling you Amir, Everton is your team

Toby Champneys

Leicester winning was actually 5000 to 1 not 500 to 1. I agree with the comment above about Leicester winning being a great story to hear as a new fan. Also check out the Amazon prime series 'all or nothing', as much as I hate Man City it's very entertaining and easily accessible for new fans 🙂 Keep it up boys

Sam Lewis

Has to be Manchester United! Young local players like Rashford, world cup winner Pogba, best keeper in the world De Gea and an incredible history and fan base. The perfect once-great team making a comeback.

Munster

Yeah I'm a huge United fan so I'm definitely pushing for one of them to choose them. Sounds like it's exactly what Jake's looking for! Hopefully we beat Spurs so they can take notice & talk about Utd

Munster

Don't listen to the people who are saying "choose this team or I'll no longer be a fan." Those people are being a bit salty. Choose what feels right on the inside and stick with it. I know there's lots of Jake and amir fans that are just excited about these two worlds colliding regardless of what team you'll be supporting!

Oscar Hornstein

Chelsea is my team and I can confirm they are the GOAT

Benji Yapp

I feel like you guys might be pronouncing “Premier” incorrectly as “Premiere”. Anyone other brits notice this or am I just being picky?

Jack Harrison

I just became a patron because of this show. Please never stop.

Jon Silva

@ Jake: I think you should follow your gut with Spurs and see out that feeling. If you're a Harry Kane fan, that's a fair enough reason to feel out the vibe and see if you like the club. Even if Eden Hazard is class (cough-he-might-be-going-to-Madrid-next-season-cough), or Aubameyang ("Obama-yang") is class, players come and go (and btw Tottenham reportedly set their price for Harry Kane at 350m when Real Madrid came asking last summer, so really your boy isn't going anywhere for the next few years). I became a Liverpool fan because I was a huge fan of Fernando Torres after the 2008 Euros, but remained a fan after he was sold because I really grew to liked the culture and character of the club. Still wake up to go watch matches on Saturday at 7am at the supporters bar in Boston to this day. I could see you going for any of the big 3 clubs in London (Spurs, Chelsea, or Arsenal). And I think you should bc you seem like you really want to immerse yourself in this, so you should pick a team that will have a fighting chance in getting top 4 to qualify for the Champion's League and going far in domestic cups so you have skin in the game in all of these competitions. Really get emotionally invested in your first season. (Tbh Spurs are also the best bet for this. Chelsea and Arsenal don't have CL this season, though Chelsea has the best shot at a place for next and Arsenal could eke out a spot.) All have exciting young players. Chelsea probably the most with Pulisic coming for 2019/20. Arsenal has a pretty exciting CDM in Uruguayan Lucas Torreira. And Tottenham has an solid core of English talent (Trippier, Dier, Alli, Kane) even if no standout young star (someone correct me if I'm wrong?). This season, Arsenal is still figuring their identity after their manager of over two decades retired. And Chelsea cycles through their managers like diapers, but you still see some stars in the team who have endured. Spur's manager Pochettino is one of the top managers in England and I think likely to stay another few seasons because he has been at the helm during Spurs recent success and this is his project. They're happy to keep him. I respect the integrity there. PS: Bournemouth is a actually a really fun team. They’re young, attacking, exciting. Their manager Eddie Howe is a Brad Stevens type. Keep an eye on them. I like watching them, even as an LFC supporter.

Jon Silva

@ Amir: West Ham are a GREAT shout to support. It's a London team, but it's not one of the currently successful London teams, so you don't look like a bandwagon fan and get some upsets and excitement. They can attract some world class players (Dimitri Payet a few years ago, Felipe Anderson this season), give a few young lads the chance to start (your boy Rice), and always seem to have some have some big names or stars past their prime or that didn't succeed elsewhere - Zabaleta, Nasri, Wilshire, Fabianski (I guess I'm saying that's a good thing. Big names are always cool, right?). They're not the sexiest pick in London, but a respectable head nod for an American. They have a pretty rich history and are stable in the top flight, so you don't have to worry about them being relegated. They could finish anywhere from 6th to 16th. The unpredictability of cryptocurrency, except with last-minute winners and red cards. Also, I'm just getting into the NBA this season (shoutout Buckets), but there has never been a stronger parallel than Liverpool being the Boston Celtics (bit similar to the Sox as well). Superstar (Salah/Kyrie), young talented core, mid-2000s success after decades of nothing, highly-rated manager, currently on the up. United are similar to the Lakers, but don't support them for that reason. Or any reason for that matter. Or City. Just stay out of Manchester, really.

Joshua Phillips

Jake... Amir... You guys need to support Wolves, they’re playing Monday, you won’t be disappointed :)

patrickam

You mentioned you were looking for football documentaries. Amazon have a Hard Knocks style all access documentary following Man city last season “All or nothing Manchester City” it might help balance out all the negative City comments, or confirm them.

Chris Sharpe

At the risk of cementing Jake as a Chelsea fan, is he aware Mark Hoppus became a Chelsea fan after moving to London?

Ben Cotton

The key thing to remember about football is that it's a very, very vindictive sport where everybody absolutely fucking hates everybody else and there is no middle ground.

Enno Eidens

Also, the goal from Willian was an amazing curve ball and also as impressive was Hazard taking the ball whilst shielding three enemy players.

Jade Payne

Manchester United is a historically great team that has been having some struggles lately and issues with managers, so now’s a great time to get on board! @jake I nominate Rashford for hottest player and him and Pogba have nice celebratory moves

Charlie Bird

greatest song to grace football

George Peckham

You won't find a pair of strikers in the Premier League with more sauce than Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Just check out their celebration they do together whenever one of them scores. Arsenal are going through a rough patch right now and are currently adjusting to having a new manager for the first time in 22 years. Historically, the Gunners are known for their classy, attractive football - capable of scoring goal of the season contenders every week. Thierry Henry is our greatest player of all-time. Our all-time goalscorer even has an American connection, having spent a few years at the New York Red Bulls. Arsenal are off the pace at the top of the table and will be rebuilding their squad in the next few transfers windows, but win or lose they are almost always entertaining.

Jade Payne

Also @Amir Rashford is a young exciting player!

Jack Noble

Huddersfield Town... American Manager, American CM, underdogs of the league and a surprising USA following. Take a punt on a smaller club!

R. Andrew Sprague

Pick man city. Y’all lived in BK back in the day. The MLS team, New York City FC (NYCFC), is owned by the same group that owns man city. A lot of cooperation between the two clubs, and City Football Group is a cool new concept to get behind that clearly has all the SAUCE.

Joseph Herzog

Soccer is a sport that is more prone to upsets (one unlucky bounce can lead to a 1-0 victory) so i think a playoff is just increasing the likelihood that you crown the wrong team. The current system evaluates who the best/ most consistent team is over 38 weeks and therefore crowns the most deserving team. I'm sure English fans can elaborate on why they don't have a playoff system.

Brandon Rudney

Please don’t support Chelsea they’ve got a historically racist anti Semitic fan base

Joseph Herzog

I'm gonna promote Spurs. Great team, no bad eggs like arsenal. Have a skilled young player named Dele Alli, a 22 year old who won the "Young player of the year" award, TWICE (back to back). Spurs "have collected at least one major trophy in each of the six decades from the 1950s to 2000s" so they're consistently good enough to compete and earn your loyalty but have only won the Premier League twice, so you wouldn't be hopping on the bandwagon of the best club in the history of the league.

Alex bentley

For some inspiration The True Geordie is a very popular English podcaster who also makes football videos and is a die hard Newcastle fan.

A Capri

The champions league is different from the “championship” league. The championship is the english league below the premier league, and champions league is the european league. Also support chelsea.

Adrian Olegario

Jake and Amir, it’s a no brainer. Liverpool FC are the team to go for. Have the greatest song in the whole of the Europe and the best attacking football in the league. I don’t mind who you guys decide to support. Just not man united or Man City. Love you guys! All the way from Sydney 🤙🏼

Andrew Stevenson

If your looking for a team to support Arsenal is a team that is unpredictable as they will beat a big team and then lose to the shitest team in the league. They one of the big 6 and still

Oliver Higham

Hope you guys watch Tottenham vs United

Ollie Calver

Someone needs to let Jake and Amir know about the Europa League, which the teams that come 5th and 6th in the EPL and the teams that win the FA Cup and League Cup go into

Matt Leach

A Southampton fan from Boner-mouth here! Typically, you tend to like a team that's traced back to family roots, geographical location, or has a player you completely fall in love with when your getting into football. For me, I'm a Southampton fan. Great history that can be traced back to introducing football to Brazil, has an academy that's put out some great players, and is essentially "responsible" for half of the Liverpool team being as great as they are. They also have gone through some fantastic seasons of playing great football AND being fucking dogshit, but considering 10 years ago they were almost bankrupt. To really blow your minds, look at how the entire football pyramid in the UK, which isn't too dissimilar to most European countries. There are some instances in the FA cup, where a team of part time players can play a top EPL team, even better when it's played at the shit teams ground. World class EPL players having to play 90 minutes on a field that's got dogshit and missing grass is always fun to watch! Or when a lower league team goes on a great run over several years and gets promoted up the leagues several times. Check out the story of Jamie Vardy, bought from a lower league team and won the EPL title! From a loyal fan that lives in Boner-mouth. (Who I would support, but SAINTS TILL I DIE)

Oliver Higham

Hey Jake if you're looking to support a once great team that has fallen from grace is about to mount their big comeback I would suggest Manchester United. They were once the biggest force in the league but for the last 5 seasons have struggled to maintain top 4 spot ever since Alex Ferguson left. They have a caretaker manager at the moment an old United legend called Ole Gunner Solskjaer who currently has won his last 6 games as manager which no previous United manager has ever done including Sir Alex Ferguson and Matt Busby (Two best managers). They are likely to get a new manager next Season which could possibly be Tottenhams great manager Pochettino (So I would wait to see if he leaves before supporting Tottenham because if he leaves they will be fucked.) Either way I dont mind who you guys support so long as it isnt the same team because it would be cool for you to support rivals like Jake for Man Utd and Amir for Liverpool. If I can sway you towards Manchester United we have the best goalkeeper in the world just look at their recent game against Tottenham.

Nicole Murphy

As an American that also only tuned in for world cup games, I would be stoked if you supported West Ham! I could give you all the personal reasons they mean something to me but I'll skip that CRAP and submit to you one of their songs - I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles. Look it up, it's hilarious!

Joey Schuenke

Everton has the best Icelandic player in Gylfi Sigurdsson!

Roland Yolandi

Amir, I feel you gravitating towards West Ham. You like the colours, you like rice, you like that we have "ham" in our name. Take the final step. It's always interesting, we occasionally do terribly, there's usually some sort of controversy, and we currently have a manager that has got our team playing very attractive football. Jake, your destiny lies elsewhere.

Lancelot Lachartre

You should check out the Amazon Prime docuseries on Man City (called "All or Nothing"). You'll get a great understanding of the personalities in the locker room over there and will surely want to root for them!

Jon Silva

Another Lakers - United parallel... Lingard, Rashford, Pogba, and Martial are basically your Kuzma, Ingram, Lonzo, and Hart (but with more dabbing). But still, United are evil. (But also... aren't the Lakers are evil? Shit.)

Alex Patrick

Something you guys might learn from or enjoy, there’s a British programme called Match of The day which is legendary in the UK, and will show you all the goals and game highlights.

Eman

Here's a quick rundown of the top teams. Man Utd- Best history, most followed team in the world, probably the most hated team in the world aswell (for dominating english football for so long) Man City - The best coach and top goalscoring team (Best attacking football), new money AKA no history, Liverpool - Solid history, haven't won in years, have a lot of heart, Also play good attacking football. Chelsea - New(ish) money, play solid football. Looking to get back in the top 4. Arsenal - Solid history and just lost their manager of 22 years! The only team to go undefeated a whole season (2003-4), currently arent playing the best football though, have potential. Spurs - Haven't won since 1961, play good football, Are fucked this season though (Because Harry Kane just got injured till march, And another player, Son, is playing in the asian nations cup) Hope this helps clarify.

Ali Brown

Watch match of the day for sure! You'll get to see highlights of most of the teams playing and the pundits discussing the players/managers will give you an overview of who you like It's on at like 10.30pm in the UK so that'll only be early afternoon for you guys

George

Leicester were 5000-1 when they won the league not 500-1! Shows how much of a long shot they were that season. I’d suggest Everton as a team to support, they have Gylfi Sigurdsson who is the best Icelandic player and they are a decent team this year. If you’re looking for one of the big six then go for Man United! They have gone through a rough spell in the last few years since legendary manager Six Alex Ferguson retired, but since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (one of their old players and legend of the club) took over six games ago they are unbeaten and playing good football again!

Some of the funnest things about supporting a club is the rivalries with your friends. SO, Ideally you would follow clubs who are rivals, or at least not follow the same team. Love Kyle.

Luke Quinton

Hurwitz stay a gooner ! Arsenal are you type of team all about stylish artistic play

Sam Wootton

Just watch the highlights of last year and you'll want to choose Liverpool! They're a team who used to dominate and haven't been as successful in 20+ years but are looking like making a come back, plus the GK Alisson is a hunk to keep Jake entertained!

Jake

West Ham is a great team to follow. Scrappy underdogs. Went through the same process you guys are about 3 years ago and landed on West Ham. Helped that I was living in East London at the time, which is where they play. Continuing my fandom in Canada.

Clark Russell

Jake is talking about Man United 100% "A once great team, that had fallen out of favour, that is now mounting their comeback". Join the Red Devils Jake.

Miles W

A playoffs? That’s sacrilege.
